i would be hunting with my buddy today, but it wasnt to be so. my fiance, deemed this the day to drag me down to the county office to apply for the marriage license. oh well, better to start off on the right foot.

well, coming back from the office, lo and behold, my friend, (he will chime in here later) called me. he was whispering. all i heard was, "i got one". he needs to go back to the truck to get a pack and then find the critter. he said the got within 25 yards, and hit it quartering away, and got a full pass thru with the arrow. he saw it lay down. havent heard back from him yet. i will let him fill in the details (if he wants). i cant keep my mouth shut. i am excited as hell for him and bursting at the seams with the news. right on buddy!

Sorry it took me so long, I'm exhausted!
I can’t even begin to explain how stoked I am over this LS pig. I have been studying day and night for 7 tests (3rd mate unlimited merchant marine officer) that start Jan 2. Things are going well, so I planned a little time to hunt. Last Friday I hunted the lake and saw more fresh sign than I had ever before and I been busting those hills for 2 years. The problem was the wind, it was all shifty, so no pigs.
This morning I was up at 3:30 and at the lake by 5:30. I made it to where I wanted to be in the dark and actually bumped a pig on the way in. The wind was shifty in the canyons, but it was pretty steady on the ridges, so I had to change tactics. I was side hilling it when I spotted a group of hogs and I immediately “hit the deck”. They were about 150 yrds and moving fast. There was no way I could belly crawl to them and there was no cover between them and me. Three of the pigs fed down hill at a quick pace and my heart sank. There was no way I could hunt them down into the canyon with the bad wind. As luck would have it two of the pigs were side hilling away from me (the one I shot and a big white boar with big’ol tusks). I waited for them to go over the top of the ridge and made my move. I got where I needed to be and peeked my head over the ridge. I saw the big white one and ranged him at 57 yrds, normally I would take that shot in a heartbeat, but I just changed out my string and cable and haven’t had time to “fine” tune my set up. I had already decided I wasn’t going to shoot over thirty yards. I looked down the hill a bit and there was my hog. She was looking directly away from me, so I made my move and got to 25 yrds give or take. I let one fly and she screamed like a stuck pig! I backed out and went back to my truck to get my Badlands. I made it back and had a hard time tracking her. I sat a while, in the last place I could find blood, and heard some leaves rustling. I crept up on the noise and there she was tucked under a fallen tree. I put another arrow in her for good measure and started the long process of boning her out. I took a few pics and packed her out.
I love Lake Sonoma and will be moving away now that I am done with the Academy. All I wanted was a LS pig and I finally got one! Sorry this was so long!

Awesome job!!!!!

I'm heading out in the morning for an overnighter up there myself. Hopefully the weather will cooperate, 50% chance of rain when I last checked about an hour ago. Hearing about your success will make things a little easier for me to bear while I'm shivering away in the back of my truck.

Congrats, and good luck with your exams.
