well I met with some friends at Tejon Ranch this week. One of my friends son only had one day to hunt before he was heading back to Afghanistan severing our country. This area we hunted was the same area I took my big bore. He was hunting with his dad and he took this nice bore. He had some nice tusk that looked to be at least 2.5 to 3 inches and in good shape. The hogs have really been working this ridge. He was able to spook it up out of the bed on a game trail around 9:30 He made one shot at 50 yards or less. The hog went down a step canyon. We were lucky that I was able to get the jeep down there. We used about 500 feet or more of rope to pull it out. From looking at the hog it weigh approximately 200 lbs plus. While back at the meat pole he told me that this was his first big game he had taken. I was very glad for him. Even though he is one stout Marine my friend had a game harness and he thought he would pull it up the hill, but he did't get very far. 200l bs up a step hill is a little tough to impossible for anyone. Well I am glad he was able to score before being deployed.
The next morning I was able to get my son on a hog at 300 yards but he missed. We had a great time hunting together. That evening we was several sows with 17 piglets. We watched them for over two hours. We saw several other hogs but just could not tell which ones were wet, so we just watch them go by. Sometimes it is as just as much satisfaction watching the hogs as it is harvesting one. Great time with good friends and family.
