Pig Hunting Video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0P2_TFizmqM&feature=youtu.be

Well guys it was July 24 and for the first time we were going pig hunting when there was going to be no moon at all I mean pitch dark(which was our one and only time because every other time we went unfortunately it was a full moon). So my brother and I took off with my Nissan Titan 4x4 to our favorite public land for pigs. My friend Devon (username dchunter) was already at the spot waiting for us so we ended up leaving around 8.30 pm. It was about a 3 and a half hour drive so like always we enjoyed our little road trip to our hunting grounds of California... Monterrey County. We met up with Devon at our spot and talked a bit then supposedly we went to sleep and it was already past 1 am. Friday morning I drove to my honey hole to check out for any activity and right when light was coming out my brother spotted a pig to my left while I was driving. I stopped my car and Devon right behind me hit the brakes and I took a look with my binoculars to make sure it was a pig because sometimes even though black objects in field looks like a pig they most likely end up being a tree stump. I told my brother "Bro it's a god dam pig!" So i opened the door and took out my 7mm Mag and for the first time I actually opened up my bi-pods and aimed straight for the pig at about 150 yards give or take. When we first saw the pig he was standing perfectly broad side but when i stepped out the vehicle to shoot he started jogging up the hill... In my scope all I could see was the butt of the pig so I had to lay one fly before it was too late and it ended up disappearing behind some trees. BOOM!! 7MAG Nosler 150 grain flying straight to his ass and thump... I knew I got the pig but I didn't see him drop he kept running and disappeared behind the trees running over the hill. So Devon walks up to me and I told him I'm pretty sure I got him but it wasn't a right placed shot due to the fact that I could only see his butt while running. My brother told me "Chris I'm 100% sure you got him" and also he said he saw a group of pigs scatter on the other side of the ridge about 600 to 800 yards out... So I'm guessing due to the fact that there was no moon at all this little piggie was left behind from his morning drink of water .... We all spread out and went towards where I shot the pig and saw no sign of any blood but I stumbled upon a group of baby piglets probably a week old sleeping together in a little circle right where I shot at the pig. For a second I thought to myself did I just shoot a sow that was the mom of these piglets?

I really got bumped out and really tried hard to see if I can see any spec of blood in the ground but nothing! We walked all around the ridge and down for a good hour or so and still nothing! So I thought to myself maybe I missed and that's a good thing because of it being a sow with little piglets.. Well around 10 am i decide to take a nap in my car because it was already about 100 degrees so my brother joined Devon to go and look for pigs... around 1 pm I get a call from my brother that they have found the pig.... I was surprised and honestly I thought they were just messing with me... First question I asked is it a sow? He said no it's a young boar and it was shot in through the butt... So for sure I knew this was my pig but the problem was he ran for about a mile and then died before reaching on top of a ridge.. I drove down and followed my friend Devon to where my brother was waiting by the pig and sure enough it was a boar!!! :smiley-mouse: Like always right after a kill, I hugged my brother and thanked God for this beautiful animal and definitely for the fact that we found him. I also thanked Devon a lot because if it wasn't for him and my brother I probably would have never found the pig because it was a mile away from where I shot it... Who would have ever thought right? So I gutted him and took some pictures and took him to a nice spot to skin the pig... After I was done we had extra tags both me and my brother so we kept on hunting... Friday evening we didn't see much except my brother spotted a pig running far away where he couldn't take a shot. Saturday morning comes and I decide to go to a spot I had never been which was a road going up a mountain and I parked on top of the ridge and both to my right and left were very deep canyons. I decided to go to the canyon on the left side and walk on top of the opposite ridge looking towards the canyon to try to flush out a pig. Well about an hour of hiking later I sword of walked too far from my car and my brother so I called my brother to check up on him and I spotted him on top of the first ridge slowly driving that road up the mountain. With a cigarette in my mouth, cellphone in one hand and coffee in the other hand, and backpack on my back with my rifle strapped on my shoulder and my binoculars around my neck... I start hearing a weird sound and right when I turn around to look towards the canyon... My GOD! I see a pig running full speed about 200 yards away and no joke it was at least 300 lbs... (I know what a 300 lb pig looks like so don't school me on this, I have enough experience to judge a pigs size at a close distance) I drop my phone, my coffee, and took my rifle out and aimed in less then a second I took my first shoot. I swear on everything this pig was a monster all black dark with huge tusks at least 3 inches as I was looking through my scope I could clearly tell it was a pure trophy. First shot I missed right under its front legs I saw the dust cloud come out so the pig started running even faster... I had another second to put in my other round and aim before it disappeared in the tree... Second shot BOOM! I got him and the pig made a loud noise OINK!!!!! I couldn't believe what just happened.. Two pigs in just two days of hunting? Talk about luck huh? Well my brother saw the whole thing happen from above the ridge so I started to track down the animal... First thing I did was look for blood... But like the other pig no blood!! Amazing because I shot straight through his shoulders.. Maybe a little back if anything but definitively it was a good shot from my angle and besides the pig making a sound, he always almost tripped down... Well I kept tracking the pig down from his tracks... Even though the ground was bone dry... The pig was so big that the tracks were actually showing in the dry ground... Followed the tracks for a good mile and nothing!!! Amazing man! I couldn't believe it... I wasn't mad for the fact that I couldn't get my pig, I was mad because I didn't want the pig to go die off somewhere for no reason and let it go to waste (Only good for the scavengers). I radioed in Devon and told him I shot another pig and he came by to help me look for it and again no luck... I even told other hunter and we tuned in the same channel on the radio so if anyone spots the pig they would let me know... NOTHING!!! An hour later Devon spotted vultures flying in the air nearly right by where I shot the pig! I got real excited thinking that they found the pig for me... We waited a little till they stopped circling the area and wanting to land and we pin pointed the area... We went a little bit and they all flew off... I'm guessing we scared them away.. Long story short we never found the pig... Sucks!! I know... Sunday morning comes Devon shots a nice pig (says about 250 lbs) but again we all put in effort to try to find it but we couldn't... 4.30 am Sunday I got a phone call from home saying my father was at the hospital and they had to do open heart surgery so I had to pack my things up and head home... This is the reason why I'm posting this hunt a week later... Now my father is fine and he is recovering so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!!!

Devon it was a pleasure to hunt with you my brother! I really like the way you hunt and your personality is great that's why we got along so well... For those of you who don't know I met Devon (dchunter) through Jesse's and I'm glad we were able to click together on a hunt... I gave him my word and promised him that we will see pigs and we will get a opportunity to shoot at them and we did! So overall it was a great trip.... Thank you for reading people....

It was awesome hunting with you and Eric as well. After a year of communicating, I'm glad we finally connected. Looking forward to hunting with you again. It was an awesome weekend. In hindsight, I am pretty sure I missed my pig cleanly. I just got pig fever. Thanks for sparing one of the hind quarters. After my brother in law smoked it to perfection, it was the best pork I've ever eaten in my life.
