We always hear to look for sheds on southern slopes by feeding sources....blaa....blaaa...bla. I've found seven sheds this season = 6 on southern slopes - all within 50 yards of food source, and five within 50 yards of rub line. Heard of a lot of people are finding matches this year too? Anybody finding patterns to their shed findings yet?

same basic areas as the last 2 yrs, browsing areas where there is grass and brush and they feel secure. trails, ditches, fences and field edges are always a must

I shed hunt in an area where there is rolling sandy hills. The deer winter in these areas for a few reasons.

1 being that because of the terrain there is lots of area where the snow is a lot shallower than solid bush or flat terrain.

the second being that in these sandhills there is a low shrub that grows on the hillsides called creeping juniper. The deer love this as a winter survival food and will seek it out and will even prefer it over alfalfa or grain.

The juniper is about the only green vegetaion out there in the spring and keying in on this natural food souce consistantly yeilds antlers.
