hey guys. i'm from upper state south carolina and i've done some hog hunting on family land in south georgia but none in south carolina. plus my method of hunting in georgia was to sit on the side of a well-used trail and wait, all the while i really hoped a deer would come by.
well, i was just wondering if anyone knew of some good pig land in sc and what methods (other than dogs) guys on this coast use to hunt hogs. i figure it can't be much different from deer. what kinds of sign should i focus on when scouting and what kind of areas should i focus on to scout? thanks.

CU,

Welcome to the list!

I have only hunted SC hogs once, last summer, but I know we have some Georgia and FL boys on the list here who might chime in.

For what I DO know, your good bets are down in the southeast, along the Savannah River and all that swampland that goes with it. Tons of hogs, and you can access a lot of the swamp by boat.

Just watch the Posted signs. Some of those old boys won't take lightly to tresspassers.

Yep....I've hunted along the savanah river around Estill, SC. Pretty much sat on stand just like deer hunting over looking cotton fields. There's plenty of pigs down there, but finding the right land might be a bit of a problem...but public land is pretty plentiful..... south carolina is a hot spot for deer as well with a season that starts Aug. 15 thru Jan 1st. If you're looking for guided hunts, you can PM me and i'll tell ya few places not to go. Look for swamps, river edges, and anything in the southern part of the state.

I've never hunted hog in SC. However, lots of hunting in middle to South GA. South near Columbus, Milan, Toomsboro, FT Stewart when I get the time. I recently joined a club closer to home (Cumming,GA) lots of hog sign and a member trapped a 300lb boar. I usually spot & stalk, as with most game hogs are where the food is.. Except they are piggish about it

Pun intended. In the swamps of our lease they tear up the water oak acorns and when that depletes they hit the food plots. I took a 180lb boar that was chowin down on blackberries this past summer. My latest was the 1st time I hunted with dogs. A friend with a peanut farm in Milan, GA. Got the blood movin

CUwader,

I'm down here in Beaufort and we went out this morning to the Savannah Refuge for opening morningof the 1 week spring season, heard a few shot's but we didn't see anything. Saw lots of good sign but they weren't around. Water levels are much more reasonable this year compared to last year. Going to hit the GA side this week.

We usually do man drives for them in the Palmettos and bambo on isolated islands. It can get wet and dirty but it's a lot of fun.

Here is a picture from this morning.
