Heard that the Kern Co. investigation is over and that the L.A. county investigation is about to start. The word was that it may be even more damaging than the north side. I heard from a pretty reliable source that this is not over by a long shot... Anybody else know any more?

I talked to the Tejon reps at the Fred Hall show and they told me hunts will probably start in the fall. I'm curious as to why there is going to be another investigation.

Since the investigation was conducted by the Ca. DFG I am surprised there would be any county distinctions or involvement, unless maybe L.A. county wants to make sure they get their fare share of the penalty fines................Don

Maybe I misunderstood what I heard but I was told the north half of the ranch is in Kern and the south side is in LA...also heard they found more lions than previously reported. Just what I heard doesn't make it true, but previously the prediction was they were going to be allowing hunting in
may. Now it's sometime in the fall...
Curious...

I thought the cash from F&G fines go to the state?

The counties get the fine money and it's supposed to be put to use for hunting and fishing improvements in that county. At the commission meetings here in San Bernardino they approve money they receive from fine money for guzzler projects, DFG game surveys, Wildlife Art Festival etc. Some counties I'm told are a little loose with what they use the money for. Make sure your county is accountable for where that money is going, like in many government entities, the money can have a tendency to get steered into someone's pet project that is not eligible. Somewhere in the state or county regs/laws is where it's laid out how the money is to be used exactly.

Last I heard, Kern's share was over $180,000. That's a lot of fingerling rainbows plants!...right

Or a new car for the supervisors. And new furnishings for the office and the Xmas party.

It's sad that hunters would patronize a ranch like that.

it's 3:42pm April 24th and I just got of the phone with the Tejon ranch. They are hoping to release info on the status of future hunts in May.
So basically she told me nothing, ha! I also asked if LA county was going to do their own investigation. She said NO, its a closed
case and all is behind them now.

so there you go and now you have it.

You know of any other ranch in so cal that offers a hunt like the spring access on tejon? It is a beautiful peice of land, its loaded with hogs and you can hunt all you want with the spring access.

all she told me is what I posted. I'm sure she only knows so much. probably corporate dealing with internal damage control. I'm sure upper management is a lil freaked out.
who knows, maybe this will be a good reason for them to up prices. they could use it as an excuse to make it more exclusive. I don't know just my 1/2 a-cent. or maybe
just laying low and letting things mellow out for a bit.

Anyway I'm sure we'll all be happy to get beck on...whenever that is

I think it is safe to say that the expensive deer, elk , and bear hunts will be back on schedule. I doubt they will lay low on those. As for the pig management hunts and spring access we can only hope for a good outcome.

Well, I got the same thing speaking to Jodi last week. Also, prior to that, I had spoken to one of the lead guides, and told him that alot of people were concerned that they would do away with the pig hunts, and he said in his opinion, there is no way they could do that. He said the management hunts are too vital to herd control. Heck, I know that I am for sure going to try and get on the first hunt when they open up, after not being hunted for 6 months..... :thumbs up2:

Well, May is officially here...
I don't see the logic of cutting out the pig management hunts as hunters had nothing to do with the whole debacle. This was all internal problems between management and employees. From what I saw on January's hunt they have no choice but to allow and encourage the pig management hunts. They are tearing that place up... As for the ethics involved. I see things much different. I don't see too much wrong (personally) with how they handled their Lion problems. If they have "that" many long tails killing their expensive animals and some people in California are too stupid to understand wildlife management...I guess I might have reacted the same way...
