I use to have a sweet location to photograph fireworks (my inlaws backyard). But they moved, so now I am on the look out for good places in town to shoot. I didnt realize how good of a show, and how good of a location I had until I started thinking that I couldnt watch the show from their backyard anymore..

Anyone else going to try and shoot any fireworks?

Here are some from the previous years

lan-lord, those are some great pictures.

Do you setup for fireworks the same as you do for lightening? If not how do you setup for them. I'm not going to be where I can try for fireworks over the 4th (heading out to camp in just a couple of hours) but we have a festival in the fall that has fireworks and have been wanting to give getting a some pictures a try.

yeah, shoot fireworks the same way that you would shoot lightning. And it's always good to review your shots after you take few, to see if you need to adjust your shutter setting

I just got back from our fireworks. I was too far away, the pics didnt amount to much.. In the past, I had been able to shoot full frame bursts, at a shutter of about 4-10 seconds. but where I was this year, I could only shoot about 1-2 seconds, otherwise it would over exopose. (due to building lights, street lights, etc) and the fireworks were very small. I miss my old spot

This was my first attempt at photographing fireworks with the D50. For using the lens that came with it I'd say these came out pretty dang good. I can't even remember the last time we went up to town to see the fireworks, we've watched them from our yard before but can barely see them. My mom and I decided to go into town to watch at the last minute. Took these across the street from the school, they were shooting them over the lake back a ways behind it. I don't know why we quit going years ago, but we already said we're gonna go next year again. The parade was really lame today, but this made up for it. I've got lots more shots, but these are some of my favorites.

thanks guys, you know I didn't think to keep looking at the settings I was using, nice thing about digitals is I can just keep adjusting and shooting until it looks right on the screen. So I didn't keep track.

Hey yall, you can tell I havent been around JHO in awhile cause I didnt know there was a photograpghy forum here. Shame on me I know.

Anyways, I have a picture from July 4th that I like. It was my first time taking pictures of fireworks and taking pictures at night with my new camera. I bought a Minolta 5D a few months back and the only pictures I have really taken were of my kids playing sports. I'll be posting more so you experts can tell me what I doing wrong
