My final doctor's appointment was yesterday...
<

Everything has healed up great! Now all I need to do is some weightlifting, to get my strength built back up. I should be in the woods in a couple of weeks!

Y'all save a couple for me, OK?!

The way it has been going for me, Ill have no problem saving a couple for ya Chairman. My neighbor just called, he killed a 2 1/2 to 3 yr old doe this evening. Says it came up on him from behind his stand with a button head fawn with 3 spots on it's hind quarter. The doe spotted him and stared, he shut his eyes for awhile, and when he opened them she was no longer looking. He buried the arrow in it's lung and it went 50 yds to die. Dont know that Id want to kill a doe with fawn, or is this late enough to do so? Anyway, I wouldnt do it. Ive been doing a daily log in the Bowhunting section if ya havnt seen it, take a look.

Haven't been out yet theis season. I usually wait for the cooler weather and some time off from work. I am a weekday hunter and hunt very seldom on weekends. I save the weekends for family & football.

My first quest will probably be on the 14 & 15 of this month. My favorite time is the last few days of October and the first two weeks of November...I have two weeks vacation then.

The cooler weather is finally here and thats a good thing. Lets get the leaves off of the trees and some good morning frost.

Good luck everyone.

H&W ~ Nice log! It gave me the "fix" I needed, until I can get out there. I felt like I was hunting right beside ya'...

Passthru ~ I hear ya'! I've worked too hard, to blow it now. I try to do a little more, each day. I just back off, if it doesn't feel right. It's tempting to get out there now, but I'm just not ready.
We've got a few nice bucks hanging around the property, so the odds are there. I still haven't taken a deer during bow season ~ yet. Taking a nice buck would sure be icing on the cake!

StringShooter ~ Things (weather) are working out to my advantage. I don't care to hunt while it's this warm. By the time the leaves start falling and frost's on the ground, I should be ready.

Good luck, everybody!

So far the Missouri bowhunting trip is going fair. AA airlines sent my bags to Charlotte N.C. Saturday which cost me a day hunting. 2nd day we got rained out. I missed meeting Tinhorn and Passthru when we went to different restaurants to meet. Going to try and catch up to them and Stringshooter later in the week.

I'm in north Missouri right now near Swan Lake NWR. Been seeing a few does and small bucks. I've been holding out for a larger buck but that may change soon. The weather has been good up here since Monday. I've been hitting some public Conservation Areas which are not too crowded. I found the track of a big 14 pointer we've been after for 2 years but he is still a ghost.

As I was crying the blues to the the motel manager he said his buddy just stuck one and he didn't hunt himself and I was welcome to come hunt his farm. Maybe my luck is changing?

More later if I can find a puter.

Alright ~ I FINALLY decided I'm ready to set a target-date for hunting ~ October 25th! I (actually, my wife) got the ATV out yesterday, to get it ready to do some scouting. Plus, my wife bought me an early birthday present ~ a Burris 20-60X80 spotting scope, with a window mount. I should be able to transfer to my truck by next week. I'll be heading out to watch the fields! Gawd, it took forever (seemed like it, anyways) to finally be able to start planning my hunt. Makes me appreciate it even more (if that's possible)...

How long are you going to be in Missouri, Jesse? Good Luck!

I shot a big doe yesturday evening near the chesterfield area. I shot it in the vitals and had a clean pass through but i was not able to locate the a good blood trail so i lost the deer. i called my dad and we had 4 other guys trying to track her but we couldnt get her. It would have been my 1st deer ever :'(

Dermody15,
That's a tuff one but, don't give up. Sounds like you done
everything you could to find it. It's a sick feeling.

Sounds to me that if you shot the deer through the vitals? (lung, heart) you should have a easy blood trail to follow. The deer has to bleed from a lethal wound like that. A gut shot may not bleed much at all. If not pressured, the deer should only travel about a few 100 yards or so and lay down, even if gut shot.

I have never shot a deer in the vitals and lost it. The deer would expire too soon that a small grid search would not locate it.

Most likely you didn't hit the deer in the vitals and you pressured it too soon on a non-lethal hit.
