No incrediable ones but here are a couple of sheds that we have found in the last couple years.

This is a 66" five point drop that came from northern Maine. With an equal opposite side and an 18-20"pread it would be in the 150" class.

This split browtine six point has about 4-5" of main beam broke off in a fight.

This pair of sheds was found by my hunting partner Buzzy one in winter one in spring.I shot the deer the following fall within 100yds of where he found them.

This bucks skelaton was found this summer by Buzz while scouting and has one tine broken off at main beam and a cracked mainbeam, probably a road hit that didn't make it.Lets see some sheds from members out there, shed season is only about a month away.Good Shed Hunting!

All the woods tromping I've done in the last 25 years I've only found one little 6 pt shed and I found a medium sized 8 pt still on the skull. I've never found any muley or elk sheds. I'll see if I can remember to take a pic of them next time I'm home in Missouri.

Best whitetail sheds from our hunting group was a big 12 pt we were all after in north Missouri. Buddy found them both next to a fence were the buck had jumped over. We estimated the buck around 170 B&C. Non one ever got that buck that we know of, at least no one claimed to have, poachers may have taken him.

Someone had a small elk shed at our last JHP hunt at Carrizo in California.

That is a GREAT shed! Tell us more about where and how you found it. Like near a fence, or staging area ect. It may help some of us find some of our own.

baddison-I don't believe anyone would believe me if they saw where I picked this shed up at.
I drive about 45 mins. down the road from my house and search the out-skirts of some bigger
towns(suburbia deer) It was in a creek bottom in thick brush that ran along the creek. The creek
bottom was about 400 yds. wide and ran between houses on both hillsides over looking bottom.
There's always some nice buck running these places, but this shed was totally unexpected.
I searched for weeks and never found the other side.

deershed,

I also do most of my shed hunting in a suburban setting, atleast thats where I have my best luck!!!! Funnel areas comming out of airports seem to be most productive for me!!!!

GIVEMTHEBLADE-You settled into your new house yet? I would love
to see some of those Michagan sheds.
I'm going crazy here not being able to get out looking, too much
snow still on the ground.Did make it out last week 1 day, found two
from last year and a fresh drop from this year.(average size)
I have alot of competition in my areas so I try and get out early. I usually
find some sheds that were missed the previous year before the comptetition
gets out and finds them.

Givemtheblade, what exactly did you mean by funnels coming out of airports? I do know it's not uncommon for the heavuly brushy areas within the airport fence to have a lot of deer within. I'm not above sneakin into areas like that but what did you mean by funnels?

Deershed, that 14 point side is even bigger than what I dream about when I fall asleep at night. I see one of those little tree rats worked on that forked part of the G-2. I can tell from your posts you really put the miles in and deserve to find the big one. How often do you spend a whole day pounding ground for sheds? Or, do you spend several hours each time out? I do a lot of looking on land that's not always posted but where I don't have express permission, etc and so usually begin at daybreak and try to get a few hours in before folks get up and about. My favorite is drizzly or just after a long rain. The bone stands out and the ground get's "black"--great contrast.

Shag-the brow tine where the boy is holding has some chews also, there's little chews on different points you can't see too_Over all the shed is in good shape,I feel real lucky to have found it.The drop tine is what I like best about it.When we go looking for elk sheds I'll bring it along.
I'm still not sure just when the elk start dropping good, still working on that one.

Last year when I went up it was the first of April and most bulls had already dropped.Didn't see but one other guy and a guy and his wife looking, that tells me I was late for prime time.I would think late feb.or the first of March would be better.
When I hunt for sheds I try to make it a whole day affair, but if I get a couple hours to spare I take advantage of it.
I know what your talking about with the early adventures to properties in question.I have a few of them myself, foggy days are great too.

Deershed--a lady I work with tells me there's a good campground or two right near Benezette that's she camped at in the past (who'd of thunk it?). Sounds like you've got a bead on the timing and what could it hurt to try a little on the early side? Worst case scenario you get a better idea where they've been hangin and concentrating--then go back. Can't wait.

shag-the Benezette Store and Restaurant have rooms for rent and were empty when I was up in April. Not sure how busy they are during March with other shed hunters in area.I hear there's alot of others out after the elk sheds too.
The store was also in proccess of opening a camp ground there in Benezette,I actually looked for sheds there.
Wouldn't be a bad idea to get there in Benezette early sat. morning and look all day then rent a room for sat. night and look again all day on sun.
Just a thought, haven't said a word to the woman yet.

For the past 4 years I have been hearing about this huge buck right behind my house. Last year, a friend of mine found a double beamed 8 point shed, it would score around 95". Yesterday, The day after deer season a friend of mine told me saw a huge deer run acrooss the road in front of him 50 yards from my house. I showed him the earlier shed and he said that it was probably the same deer. in march I will probabaly start looking for newer sheds.

BTW, This deer has to be 7+ years old, A man that has land adjoining ours shot at him about 4 years ago and said he was a 14 poin then.

Shag,

No, I don't mean trespassing onto the airports property!!!!! I recieved permission from a farmer that owns land boardering the airport theres a creek that goes through the airport and the enters the land that I look on!!! It continues through the land I look on to some other land that I can't get permission to go on but the land that I find them on is a huge funnel into farm land from the airport!!!! No one is suppose to gun or bow hunt the airport, but there are verious rumours about employees that hunt there!!!! I will say this though I work hard to find my sheds I usually average about 25 hrs a week starting pretty soon and I will continue till the end of April I usually yield anywhere from 10-15 sheds a year alot of single sides though so either there lossing 1 side in the airport and lossing the other side outside the airport or I'm just not looking hard enough!!!! The double beam I found I walked over 4 times and found it the 5th so their there just need to slow down and concentrate!!!! I don't know if you know this but deer will dig holes under the 10+' fences and thats usually where the funnel starts I have never found a shed that has got caught on the fence when they go under but it could happen I guess!!! Good luck and happy hunting!!!!

deershed,

I am now moved just in time for shed hunting!!!! I will take some pics on monday and put them on the web later in the day so be ready!!!!!!!

Deershed, that sounds like a good plan. I should have guessed there'd be active competition out there. The ones you pictured were awesome, to say the least. I'm thinking early to mid-March. What do you think. I gotta go out of town for business the last week of March but I'd say we ought to give it a try well before that anyways. There might be some on the ground the end of Feb but what would the conditions be (snow, etc?). Sounds good. I'm so used to looking for whitetail sheds and find quite a few small ones---an elk shed has to kinda jump out at you doesn't it? Do you find them in areas that look "sheddy" like the deer sheds or do they hang way up on the sides of the mountain? I'm gettin stoked just thinking about it.

GIVEMTHEBLADE-Glad to hear your settled in, in time for shedding season. It's started already in this house.I'll be watching for those pics!! GOOD LUCK

Shag-I'll be calling up to the Benezette Store some time this week to check on the room situation for early March though the end of March.I've got a few contacts I met up there for the latest on the snow conditions too.

You better get the whitetail shed hunting out of your system before you go for elk sheds. After looking for elk sheds, looking for little whitetail sheds wasn't the same for me.

Deershed---Super. You didn't mention, do the elk pound the lower portions of the mountains, field areas and south facing slopes, etc? Seems like the tops and upper reaches of the hills/Mts wouldn't be that desirable in winter. Another question, do they use "bedding areas' similar to whitetail or do they just bed anywhere theres some shelter from the wind? Man I'm getting pumped thinking about searching for a trophy elk shed. Yeee-Haw.
