shag-I'm new with dealing with the elk, still learning. The only thing I know for sure is I don't know much.
<

I can tell you I found all my sheds up on the mountain.I think the river bottoms get hit hard from other hunters and other areas close to town.I was late to head up there to look also last year.
Elk are grazers and not browsers like deer, elk like that fresh grass that grows in the locals yards.
One of the biggest things that bothered me last year was I could never figure out where the elk got to.I'd see alot of sign, but no elk. When I'd be walking I'd find alot of sign then all sign would just end?I was told they like to make a big circle around the Benezette area.
I think we could find the elk and good areas to search by following the competetion.

There's more to shed hunting then just knowing the animal whose sheds your looking for.

BTW-got news that at least one elk already dropped!! We will find a shed(s)

deershed, that's pretty interesting, what you say about the situation around Benezette and about the elk feeding habits, etc. Do you know whether they're hunted right in that area or do they leave that herd alone? What a challenge, to say the least. Also, what a rush it must be to find bone off an elk--what a trophy. Should I acquire a topo of the area to study before the time rolls around? I see quite there are numerous sites about PA Elk on the internet. From looking over these sites it appears there are trails throughout these mountainous areas, some of which look like they go WAY back in. I'm guessing these big critters travel a lot and use much of the suitable range "back-in". Wouldn't seem too likely that they spend all their time in easy to get to or easy to view areas. Sounds like you've arranged an extra set of eyes and ears down there. Keep me posted. Jer

deershed,

Ya finally settled in but now I'll be busy fixing it up for the next couple of years!!!! Well the pics are @

http://community.webshots.com/user/givemtheblade if ya want to check them out!!! Found a shed the other day it was a 4 pt, I seen that buck several times during season. All the sheds you will see have come from the same area all w/in 300 yrds of each other so enjoy, notice the similarities in the different racks its amazing how you can follow the blood lines. In the area I'm finding these it seem like there are two dominate geans!!! You can really tell the same blood lines either there totaly typical or the have a messed up left side(usually more points on there left side vs there right) ENJOY!!! Let me know what ya think!!!

GIVEMTHEBLADE-nice bunch of sheds you got there!! I really like that double beam shed, never saw one like that. That's a good bit of sheds for all being found with in 300 yards of each other.
<

I use to tag all my sheds and noticed the same thing about similarities with sheds found from same area year after year.I've got 2 different sheds from back to back years that I found with in 20 yards of each other and know they both came off the same buck.Carbon copies of each other except one is bigger in size.
I checked out your other albums while I was in there. Was that 2001 buck that had a net score of 141 7/8's your top scoring buck? Awesome Buck!!

Yes that is my top buck!!! It's kinda a funny story, I works so hard to scout up here in MI to focus on harvesting anamials of this calibure but it never seems to work out! 2001 I had to be in Oklahoma for work an I kept asking all the people I worked w/ if they had any land I could hunt and finaly a week before rifle season started a guy about my age said his uncle owned about 500 acres just south of okc so not having much time to scout I didn't know where to set up his uncle told me a place he always sees deer so I decided to set there and 1 hr after day light opening day I was loading this magnificent buck into my truck, the easiest hunt I ever experienced!!!!
