I am looking for a pig hunting partner. Does anyone have access to private land in california? I am ready and willing to go. Any real hog killers out there?

Welcome aboard

Just a quick observation though. You joined and have 5 posts. 4 asking for hunt info. You asked for some info on D zones on June 30th and got lots of responses yet you didn't even thank those folks for thier replies. Then yesterday you ask for a pig hunting partner to take you on private land and now this one.

Folks around here tend to get a little shy on helping out new guys as many folks show up this time of the year for a quick "hit and run" and never come back or contribute. Stay around you'll get lots of info.

Once again, welcome aboard

*Edited* - My mistake, I thought I was replying to the "trade pig hunt for fishing trip post.

Not an easy proposition in the Golden State. If you get lucky you can meet some one who owns land or family or close friend does so you can pig hunt on private land where 95% of all wild pigs are havested. More realistly you can join a private club such has Wilderness Unlimited or Golden Ram. Wilderness Unlimited is the larger of the two groups and you can hunt a wide variety of ranchs in Cal for pigs but you can't use dogs and of course baiting in illegal in Cal even for pigs. If you have a lot of money of course you can lease a ranch or join a small club that leases a particular ranch.

Tejon ranch has some hunts where you just pay say$ 450 ( at least a few years ago it could be more)for a weekend unguided of course. Of course there are guided hunts where the guide has exclusive acess to a private ranch. If you want to hunt on public land you might wish to download the pig hunting booklet on the Cal Fish and game web site. Of course if you visit texas different story private land acess is a lot cheaper and Texas has more hogs.

Hope This Helps;

I can vouch for that.

Seriously, TH... what's your plan? Just gonna ask for the golden ticket without even opening a candy bar? I guess it could work.

If you'd like to have a little more success, try sharing a little more about yourself. For example, what's in it for someone who wants to take you on their private parcel? Why would I want to invite you to my place (if I even had a place)?

Gotta think, brother. Bold is good... it shows you got cajones. But a little brains can be an important attribute too.

I don't think his request is too out of line. I'd like somebody to pick me up at my house, drive me out to their land and set me up with a nice boar a minimum of 3" tusks. Of course they should be willing to gut and skin it for me. It would be really nice if they would pick up the taxidermy fees. Arranging temperatures in the mid 70's would be icing on the cake. Now in comparison doesn't his request seem pretty reasonable.

I personally like the saying of "Wish in one hand shit in the other see which one fills up first" But is also never hurts to ask.

Maybe you can find what you are looking for here

It's the Scots/Irish in me, Mike. The land of James Joyce and Johnathan Swift. Probably explains my predilection for the stronger spirits as well.

If it's the spirit, it should be Edgar Allan Poe.

Speck, and I'm wondering why you have not joined Outdoor Life or Field and Stream yet. Be paid to hunt and write about it and follow the footsteps of Jack O'Connor. Jack needs an heir and I never seen one yet.

Tholihan,

Let's start by asking where are you located? Are you willing to drive to and from the hunt (use your vehicle)? Did you want to split expenses or if someone put you on a hog would you be willing to flip for the trip? Do you have a boat, maybe you could exchange a hog hunt for a fishing trip... Ideas like this might help in getting friendlier responses.

Most the guys are just fun'n with you, you've got to take this place with a grain of salt... BTW, I don't have any private land either...

Oh, I almost forgot.... Lurediver is right, he's no hunter!!

Well, I figure you asked nice enough so here goes.

Check out the Chattahoochee National forest, any major creek or stream heading to a reservoir, follow that up into the forest away from roads, and there you go.

Well, Thanks to all who replied even if you were rude :) What a way to treat a newcomer. I guess you really do have to have thick skin around here. I wasn't looking for a free lunch - just looking for some hunting buddies who like shooting pigs. In fact I would be willing to flip for the trip, gas, food and beer (after a hunt). Also, I do have a 22ft seaswirl fishing boat for those who like to fish as well - ocean or freshwater.

For those who suggested WU - I am a member as well; the problem is that those who do not belong on this site cannot go and shoot. It is great for me, but just like the disapperaing of private land in california a good hunting buddy is hard to find here as well. Have you ever tried to get outfitted at our biggest hunting store - Big 5?

Seriously, thanks for ALL of the replies. Luckily, I do have a thick skin, and wish everyone the best. I am willing to offer a second set of eyes for some local hunters - any game. I just love hunting.
