on the La Panza hunt, DFG has two parcels of land that are behind locked gates called upper and lower Chimenas. They are probably the best public land areas on that hunt. At the start of each la Panza hunt season, they get all the regular tag holders together and have a little lotto drawing. Two winners get to go on those parcels of land. As a fundraising tag winner, do you also get access to those parcels?

I drew a blank for a Kentucky tag, but did get a cow tag for Colorado first rifle. We applied as a group and got 3 bull tags and 3 cow tags.

My buddy is 1st alternate on the FHL bull elk 447, the same one I drew a few years ago. I really doubt someone will be turning in that tag. And to think they reduced that tag by like 1, Lol

I was drawn for the elk fundraiser tag. Trying to figure out what I want to do. But definitely feel blessed. Have put in every year, all three species and have max elk points still. Any info or advice would be appreciated. Will be starting in northeastern zone.

You lucky SOB!! On one hand, the Northeast zone has some toads. On the other hand, might be your only shot at bagging a Tule. I had the northeastern tag two years ago.. That would be my top choice.

Thanks for the info guys. I may take you up on that call joe. Just to pick your brain. I am leaning toward northeast for sure. Can start one week before earliest season. As for la panza, it's in my back yard. I have been on the chiminas before dfg got it and looked at lots of bulls. Haven' t got dfg to call me back to answer my questions. Want to kill a stud. What's realistic northeast? And would I need a guide?

CaliDuckPro what did you get done on your northeast hunt 2 years ago. How big and did you use a guide or DIY. Any info would be appreciated.

Mike,My hunt was DIY. I ended up taking a weird looking 4x4 on the second to last day I could hunt. But we saw a couple bombers! I still think about one of the bulls we saw... that sucker haunts my dreams! It's hard to say what's realistic for the NE Zone... there are some huge bulls in there, but it's not a slam dunk. It's a huge zone and they're not found throughout. More concentrated in certain areas. There's some guides that are familiar with the area. They were guiding the governor's tag up there the year I hunted. It's a tough choice... But sounds like a good problem to have!

Thanks again. I do get to get in there one week before anyone else. But I'm a teacher and I'll have just started school at that time. So I've got to make it count. If I can't kill a big one, I may think of the tule hunt down here. Want to do the tag justice. How is the terrain up there?

The terrain in surprisingly variable. You can hunt the Warners in a high timbered type country. Or the Devil's Garden. The Garden is tough... Not many high vantage points. Very flat. Very rocky. Some areas densely timbered. Best to find water and sit... Or work the areas around water.

Once again thanks. Any and all advice is appreciated. I was trying to get in shape for chukars. Now I have even more motivation. I am not usually lucky until now. I want to make it count by killing a stud. My son ate a fhl youth buck tag last year because we couldnt find a truly big buck. 15 year old let over 30 bucks go. I hope this goes our way.

Just curios, how many fundraiser tags for elk did you buy? I only ever buy one each per species just show I have a chance.. Congrats and shoot a monster.
