I will be hunting Palm Ranch just outside of Coalinga this week...Has anyone hunted this ranch or the area and lend any advice.....Thanks in advance.......Eric
Yup! Been on it numerous times. My buddy was on last week. No Bucks, no Pigs for him. Bring lots of water, it will be HOT! Take the Parkfield Grade south over the hill into Parkfield for the best steak dinner you'll ever have!
Tree Doc..........Have you taken or seen any pigs or deer on that ranch??? I was told the west side of the ranch was the best side??? What is your thought on this property??? Eric........
I've hunted Palm many times and have taken 2 hogs there. In all those times, I've only seen one legal buck. It's a beautiful ranch but the last 6 times I've been there I haven't seen a single hog. In fact, the last 3 or 4 times I've gone I haven't seen a track and I know every water source on that ranch. The most hog activity is at the far west end of the ranch, down by the house and corrals. The hills to the south of the ranch house seem to hold hogs and there are a couple of creeks there. Also, the stream that flows down the canyon behind the barn/trailers close to camp is a good spot at sunset and sunrise. You can hike back in along the stream there and check for tracks. Lately, though, Palm has not been at all productive for anybody. You'll do better at Twin Peaks or Rinconada. Twin Peaks holds a lot of hogs and quite a few deer. Feel free to email me and I'll give you info re: those two ranches if you are able to switch from Palm to one of them.
I just came off of Rinconada last Tuesday after 4 days onboard. Not a single hog to be seen and very little sign. It's booked through the season too. Water is a huge issue not to mention the pressure they have received this past year, it's low. Things will be good if we get some rain this winter, if not it's gonna suck big time every where!
Hey Tree doc,
I went there about 2 months ago... Didnt see one hog or deer. It is a very pretty ranch but it is def. out of its prime... Bring your shotgun though lots of doves, rabbits, and ground squirrles.... GL have fun... nofear
I've said it before and again. If you are in for a good time in camp and a walk in the wood, go for it. If you expect to see a pig or deer, your chance are slim. Doccherry hit it right. Twin Peaks would be a better place if you can get the reservation. Good luck.
