Anyone here Hunt JCA?
My concern is that it may be just another "Big Horn Cyn. Ranch".

I want to hunt hogs that are wild, truly wild...not a rough day at the petting zoo.

Any input you guys can give would help.
Thanks.

Jim's hogs are wild hogs. You can do 2 types of hunting, sit in a stand or spot and stalk. Some of his ranch is pretty rough. You won't see any short nosed, floppy eared hogs there. I've never been there and probably wouldn't go myself but I do know a few guys that have been there with no complaints. If you were to book a hunt, I'd make sure you talked to Jim in length and ask him everything you want to know.

I spoke with the owner of this place.
It's on 500 acres, he has a game fence around the entire property and breeds the Hogs there.
He states theyr'e all very much wild Hogs but only has one restriction...Don't shoot big red.
The hunt is pretty much guided and costs $450.00 which includes one hog. There's a $100.00 trophy fee
for tuskers over 2" and lodging is included from Noon Friday to Noon on Sunday. "BYOF".
The owner (Jim) says there are about 200+ hogs on the property.

I dunno...sounds a little too "slaughter house" to me.

.....you gotta be kiddin' me! For the $$, go try and shoot a wild one. There's no guarantees of course, but that's why it's called huntin'. But then again, that's just my

Arrowslinger,
Couldn't agree with you more.
I'd rather hunt and come back with nothing than walk into a large pen and start shooting. While these hogs aren't tame, I still say there's a difference between wild and captive. Kinda takes from the phrase "Fair Chase".

May be some guys cup of tea. Just not mine.

Ummmm??........200+ hogs fenced in a 500 acres. That's sounds like a good place to start my 12 years old on a hunt.

I dunno L2H,
My boy's 16 but I think I'd rather he understand what it really takes to hunt
Than simply find pleasure in the kill.

Personally, I'd rather hunt hard and come home with nothing than walk up on
animals that I know can't get away and just kill 'em.

I'll quote MNHNTR; " Hunting is not killing, Hunting is living ".

I think killing the animal is just one element of the hunt.
Just my

though. To each his own.

I think it'll be similar to a Texas style of pig hunting. Sitting in a box stand looking at a feeder and waiting for a pig to show up. But in Texas the cost is $50-$100 a day and it include one pig per day. The $450/day at JCA might be a little high for that type of hunting. After the hunt with Ken Whitaker, I really like the place and the way he runs his hunt. I think I might start my 12 years old over there.

I gota agree with F350 on this one. I have hunted more than almost anyone I know but most of these people I have met have harvested twice as much game as myself and can't even shoot worth a damb. I love the hunt and theirs nothing better to top it off with than a good barbeque with friends and family sharing your treats afterwards. But if you have no good story to tell other than we walked up and put a gun to its head and it took a whole 10min. to bag, just doesn't do it for me.

I know I work hard for my game and when I work hard enough is when I usually get results.

And you better believe there will be a story to remember forever. The real question is how do you want your child to remember it and keep in mind is this the way your father taught you?
