I was supposed to be flying into Phoenix tomorrow for business, but the meeting was cancelled. My brother winters in Apache Junction, so I've often wondered about hunting in that area. I know non-residents can get OTC archery tags for deer. Is Javelina hunting "draw only"?

Good luck on the oinkers.

There is a draw for Javalina, but it's usually a 100% draw with a bunch of leftover tags available starting Nov. 28th, by now there aren't too many left. You can go to the AZ DFG web site, click on big game draw at the top, then scroll down to leftover permits for 2012, updated today, 22nd.

Our group hunted 36C this year, which we did often about ten years ago and were mostly successful, last few years hunted in 32 and thought it was time to try 36C again. Three friends went out for archery and all got pigs, then we show up for the HAM hunt, glass all over for three days and didn't see one pig, lots of deer though. First two days were clear, calm, warm, and a full moon. Last day which was the last day of HAM hunt was cold and windy, both types of weather which I think affect javalina movement.

I heard the stories of calling in javalina with a predator call, but haven't tried yet, but after watching the clip on youtube called "Calling in Javalina.WMV" I may have to try next time to see if I can draw them out of the thick stuff.

Good luck Mjp62!!

Have fun wish I could join the hunt. But I'm training new Bear dogs for the upcoming season. Hoping to put a couple bear in the tree for the wife and I, maybe a few friends.

They are good eating. It's more of a "red meat".

Just looking at that pic I can almost smell him.
Congrats !
I miss hunting them. It was a family tradition for many years until my kids left home, can't go back by myself, too nostalgic.

Just went to my usual spot at daybreak. Hiked and glassed until I found a herd of about seven. I glassed them from a road down into a canyon draw. About a quarter mile down. Shot from my .223 at about 50 yards.
