I went Pheasant hunting there about 10 years ago, seen some awesome bulls. I may hit it again if they still do pheasant hunts just to look at the elk.

We duck hunt there and see the elk all the time.

They still do the pheasant hunts there as well.

They're pretty far way from Hwy 12 (if thats your route). If you drive all the way back to the DF&G Office area, they'll point you to where they are. Just go before the season (or duck season) starts.

I plan on taking the kids next month and taking a few photos.

Public access closes July 29th, if I remember correctly. Was there on Friday chasing bunnies and didn't see any elk, but they're there somewhere. Now that would be a dream tag...

10 or 15 years ago, when I lived in Suisun, my brother drew a bull tag and a couple years later, a cow tag. He got a helluva bull! Of course, I've never been drawn. I used to pheasant hunt there a lot, and a couple of times my shorthairs thought they'd help me out and herd a bull in my direction. A PO'ed tule elk bull at 10 yards with only #6 shot is exciting....

Actually, I got the cow tag first, then the bull tag. That was 1986 and 1990.

Lived on that bull all through grad school=couldn't afford beef. The trick is: DON"T mix fat in with the ground meat and double wrap. It was still good after almost 3 years.
