I will be heading out for my most intensive searh of the year early tomorrow into Saturday. I hope to find a few that aren't totally ruined like the one I found last weekend. Just wondering how many out there are going out to look one more time before green-up.

Good luck to all!

I am going to keep trying to locate the right sides of the 2 big boys and hit some new areas. It has really dropped off for me in the last 4 days. Ticks are getting to be a pain. I usually find one or two during the spring turkey season, so it ain't over yet.

I hear you on the tick situation!! It's getting ridicoulus the last week. I've had between 10-30 wood and deer ticks each day I've picked off myself since it warmed up a bit. I'll keep looking hard for another two weeks till turkey hunting starts. Then I taper the season down from there.

I'm heading up to our hunting grounds in nw WI to look this weekend with my pops. I have high hopes...unless the neighbors have walked it all. Quite a few people feeding on our end of the road, and we have a big cedar swamp that the deer like to bed in. It's usually good for a few nice ones each year. After that, I'll be lucky to get out a couple more times. Noticed the chatter has slowed down a little and even the Canada shed websites havn't updated for a while. Shed season goes too fast.

I've torched my "best spots" tha tusually have produced for me and have come up with only three sheds for a huge amount of looking and walking. I guess a low deer herd and heavy pressure on the bucks eventually makes shed hunting a practical waste of time....duhhh. I've walked probably 50-60 hours easy in the best areas I can find for three small to medium sheds. Green-up's a ways off but it doesn't much matter if there's nothing there to find. I'm currently seeking new spots I've never tried before while it's still good conditions for looking in this region before things start to green up. In the meantime the posts and pics from the guy in western S. Dakota and Deershed's pics makes me crazy. "WAY TO GO DEERSHED"......100 SHEDS AND COUNTING. I will say some of the pics I've seen on here from Canada, Iowa and of course Deershed's pic are just unbelievable.

I'll be looking til the mushrooms start popping up then I'll look for them and sheds both.lol
The shed season is too short as it is,no way am I making it any shorter by stopping now.The rodents don't find them all,if they did we wouldn't find sheds from the year before.
I found PERMANOME works great on keeping the ticks away. You can pick a can up at WalMart in with the camping gear. You spray it on your clothes and the ticks hate it.

Shag-thanks!! This has been a dream season, doubt if I'll have another one any where close.

Still going strong - many hours in (20-30) without a single recovery, but am determined to find a few. Heading to Red Wing Minnesota where I found an untouched shed on April 7th of last year. I will be looking for sheds into the shrooming season. At this point, I don't care if it's a spike half chewed off - I just have to find one! Good luck and

fossilman,

This may be a dumb question, but why would mange in yotes and foxes be a reason to quit shedding?

Still looking out here in the PNW. We look year round though, nothing changes. Its always green here

The elk sheds are what everyone is looking for now, since they've been dropping in the last two weeks, but the deer sheds still keep coming in. We picked up another 3 or 4 last week at the office, mainly last years, but good ones anyway.

I have yet to find a shed from the year before, not saying they are not out there.....but. We have soooo many darn squirrels alone, they destroy them very quickly. I guess I need to thin them out a bt next fall.

coyotebandit,

I was up in Sawyer County shedding with my Dad and saw a pencil racked fork horn still holding both sides. April 4th, new latest date for seeing bucks packing for me. Have heard of them into mid April though.

My dad has some land up in Sawyer county also. I've never really looked for sheds up there. You ever have any luck there? What town are you near? My dad's land borders the National Forest and is about 15 minutes from the town of Winter.

buckhunter24,

We are in the s/w corner of Sawyer. About 3 miles from Birchwood which actually sits in Washburn. We do most of our hunting in Sawyer though. You guys have better bucks around Winter than we have in our area, but we may have a few more deer. Yeah, I have found a few up there. Found two sides of four on Saturday. We have a nice little collection of sheds that my Dad, Uncle and myself have found over the last few years. I snapped a few pics of them, and will post them when I get the film developed.

I found a nice side of five two years ago near Blaisedale Lake. I think that is pretty close to Winter, maybe a little closer to Lorretta.
