Good question. I dunno. That would be better answered by Roger and his crew.

Are you gonna go back with the Millers again?

I'd gladly hunt with them again. I'd like to do an annual hunt with them, just to get on the board for the season, along a few unguided hunts on public land.

Thanks again for the info about Cindy. I spoke to her the other day and if she finds fresh sign it sounds like a great deal.

Keep me posted on what Cindy says. If she spots some sign, I might be willing to take another trip.

NastyNate Congrats on the Pig.

I like to say I’m one of Roger Miller’s “regulars”. I’ve been going to his ranch over the past 3 years and have hunted the following on his property:
Pigs
Turkeys
Quail
Ground Squirrels
Dove

I’ve always had a great time, that’s why I keep coming back. I’ll be out there next month for quail and I was out there in Late August for a Pig hunt. Here is my pig hunt from last year. http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/showthread.php/221339-Hunting-Trip-in-Parkfield-CA

Nate, if someone was to get a hog the first day with Miller Ranch...can they stay the remainder of their stay to chill/relax/target shoot/hike? thx.

Assuming you are staying at his cabin, the answer is typically yes. I’ve been in that situation and we has said yes every time. You’ll see brass around his cabin from folks plinking. He does have an area on his property where you can sight-in and shoot 100 yds for practice.

I'm gearing up for this hog roast here for the new baby and have been doing some reading about gut shot kills. From the time the first shot was taken to the time the animal was hosed off back at the ranch was >30 min. The guide did a thorough job of cleaning it but I'm also concerned about the gamey taste as the hog was pursued into the bush.

I plan to nuetralize the lactic acids before roasting by marinating in apple cider vinegar for 2 or 3 days. Can anyone else offer any tips to help tenderize the meat and avoid it being too gamey? Anything else I should do to clean the meat again before I cook it to make sure there is no bacteria that was missed the first time?

TIA

Nastynate, I also live in SoCal and been traveling to the Paso Robles area for business reasons a lot lately, after reading about your experience I rather hunt hogs than go wine tasting...I'm considering going to the Millers this winter, need to find a hunting partner first... thanks for the info.

About your lactic acid questions I don't have a straight answer but I'd try some lime juice, onions and garlic salt on a couple steaks let them marinate for a couple hours before cooking them...

I'm planning to go in late December, preferably during the week.

That's gonna be a bad time for me. It gets pretty busy around here with the holidays. I can't imagine wifey just letting me slip off without a fight around that time.

Keep us updated on your trip and def post pics. The Miller's will get you on hogs, they have a bunch on their ranch. For my next hunt, I wanna try something more challenging. Mel Carter is setting up a semi guided hunt for 10/12 - 10/14. I wish I could go to that, you might wanna check that out if the date works for you, I think they still need some more bodies.

Thanks for the warm wishes. I dunno much about that area, I'm in So Cal. Check out Mel Carter's semi guided hunt for 10/12 - 10/14. It's a better deal than what I paid.
