Just got an e-mail from the March winner, NORCALBLACKTAIL, who chose spring wildflowers as this months topic.

Good luck everyone!

I went on a fishing trip this weekend and good thing I took my camera. Lot of wildlife and scenerary to take pictures of. I took this picture of this purple flower while I was on an island taking pictures of a pair of Honkers and a dead Deer skeleton.

Don't know what type of flower it is, but I loved the color.

Sorry fellas, I forgot to layout the timeline for this month's contest.

Please have all photos submitted before 7 AM on April 29, 2008. I will post the vote that morning and you will have until noon on May 1, 2008, to vote for the winner and runner-up.

Remember, if you post more than one photo, specify which one we are voting on.

Thanks,
Tim

That flower is a Lupine, and most likely a "Bentham Lupine."

Here is my second entry for the contest. Lost my "man card" on this one I was told.

DSC00304.jpg

I took this with my Sony Cyber-shot. Since I loaded it up and had erased it on the camera, I cannot provide all the details in regards to the shot.

The second doesn't really refelect on the flowers in detail so much. I took this picture because this is a local Honker that had been eating the "greens' for the protein prior to her laying a clutch of eggs. 8 of them to be exact and 6 made it through incubation!!

IMG_2490.jpg

This was also taken with the sane Sony Cyber-shot camera.

Wildflower shots in April is almost next to impossible up here in Modoc County. Most of the Daffodils are just starting to bloom and we are having almost daily snow storms - I'm not joking. On my way home yesterday, I happened to notice the first wildflower of the year just off our driveway. My father-in-law calls them yellow bells. The plant is only about 4 inches tall and the flower is about 3/4 inch long. Come about mid May, the rest of the flowers around here will be in full bloom. We have a meadow that turns purple with camas - very beautiful.
