FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ARCHERY AND CROSSBOW GUIDED PIGHUNTS OFFERED AT LAKE SONOMA

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in cooperation with the Friends of LakeSonoma will be permitting guided pig hunts throughout the park from October 1[SUP]st[/SUP]to November 1[SUP]st[/SUP]. These guided huts precede the open pig hunt thattraditionally begins in mid November.

The Purpose for Pig Hunts:
These hunts are intended to reduce the local population of wild pigs. TheEuropean wild pig (Sus scofa) was brought into CarmelValley in Monterey Countyin 1925. Here pigs were released into the wilds where they expanded their rangeand interbred with feral domestic pigs. The range was further expanded byindividuals who caught wild pigs and relocated them in various areas throughoutthe state. Wild pigs have become an increasing problem at Lake Sonoma.Extensive erosion damage is occurring due to the pigs rooting up many acres ofhillsides and landscaped areas of the park.

Special Restrictions:
These guided hunts are limited to archery and crossbow hunting only.Hunters may not possess any firearm while in the park.
Hunters must possess a valid California hunting license and pig tag whilein the park.
All hunters will be accompanied by a California State Licensed huntingguide thru the Friends of Lake Sonoma.

Hunters aresubject to all park rules and regulations as well as all applicable Departmentof Fish & Game rules and regulations and State laws.

Inquiries on arranging hunts can be made via e-mail with Jayson Collardat: inatriangle@yahoo.com

I have the same question. What will it cost? I suppose we could all email Jayson individually, but it would sure save him some trouble by just posting that info here.

Rangerjoel lives!.....lol good to hear from u my freind. Wow that's a great option now to have guided pig hunts at the lake.
Even through it will be open bowhunting for a small fee in a couple months.
Anyone who really wants a great opportunity at the lake to spend time with Jayson as your guide it is well worth it in knowledge of the lake he has alone and how to hunt those elusive pigs and there's no hunting pressure on those pigs now so the opportunity has to be be very good to be successful.
Jayson ( whitemamba ) is a great guy and I am glad I have had the privilege to hunt with him at the lake and his friendship is one I will always hold on.
Damn I really miss hunting the lake for wild pigs more then anything since I left cali. It's just a great place to get away from the rat race an awesome scenery and it will keep u or get u in shape if u hunt it alot belive me....tra

Hey Joel and Jayson, the news release says hunters must be accompanied by a licensed guide, does that mean other guides can guide the lake...thought that was not permitted, no guiding on army corps property. Joel you know me, I'm not a whinner, I kill pigs. It just sounds like a private position for Jason, why not extend the season and post hot spot maps for the general public. No offence to anyone involved, I'm just sayin, first deer guiding now pigs? But no other guides?

On second thought, I may stand to be corrected, I know of a fishing guide that guides on sonoma, so that what I heard may be totally incorrect, would sure like to know, Joel as you know I've taken many pigs there including taking the reporter from that radio station and killed a pig for her show. Hi Joel, not complaining just trying to clarify things, hope all is well.

I hope the problem areas are not the same as where the A25 hunters will be since this guided deal will run the same time as the A25 season.

Ranger Joel,

Can you update us on when registration will start and what the process is this year? Hopefully, a smoother process for online registration has been hashed out as opposed to in person registration.

Hey guys, sorry for the delay in getting back to you all. First off, yes the grammar is bad. Spell check ruined my promising career as a gas station attendant but qualified me for work with the Army. Go figure…
Hunt guides: I’m not opposed to other guides working the park provided all of the proceeds go to the Friends of Lake Sonoma. Jayson is essentially donating his time and I would encourage anyone who is a licensed guide to consider attending one of the Friends board meetings. I always feel bad about asking Jayson to handle all of the hunts. Doug are you back in the area again?
Finally, I just heard back from Stacy over at DFW and it looks like the soonest we could start the regular public hunts would be November 23[SUP]rd[/SUP]. I will follow up with an official press release when we are sure of the dates. I’ll also try to proof read it a little better this time!
