Had a successful hunt despite extremely dry conditions.

Heard something pushing leaves around some oak trees. I crested a hilltop and spotted the source of the noise, a black hog, 150 yards away downhill from my position. I watched that hog root around for 10 minutes and then bed down with about 10 more hogs in a shiny hog pile. Gave them an hour to get comfortable before I went in for a stalk. The ground was covered with dry leaves so I took off my boots and took another half an hour to stalk to within 30 yards of the pile. I could make out the hogs at that point, but there was too much brush in the way for a clear shot. Came up with a plan that involved fist sized rocks, and then had them coming at me single file, on a slow stop and go walk, at 15 yards. First was a fat calico sow, didn't present a perfect shot, second was a calico 40 pounder, too small, 3rd was a fat 60-70 pound sow and I got it. Was a great day to be outside, still very dry in the hills.

Nice, what bow/broadhead/arrow combo were you using to punch through the shoulder like that?

Did you throw the rocks over them to make noise behind them?

Great hunt Bigbadboar! Any bow kill is an accomplishment. 15yds on a 70 pound sow? no wonder it went through the shoulder plate. Congratulations!

Thanks for the report and congrats.
There's still hunting to be had despite the dry conditions, and you proved it.

Awesome! Did it go down where you hit it, or did you have to track it a bit?

PSE Brute X @ 60 lb draw. Heavyweight arrow with a carbon express quad pro fixed blade broadhead @ 100 grains. The rock made noise and spread my scent. Shot was a pass through because of the setup/distance/size of hog, and it passed right through the heart. Watched the pig go down in seconds.
