Hello all,
I know we can't shoot off of any vehicle, but can we use them to cover ground?

Yes, but you must stay on roads, 4x4 trails, or designated ATV trails.

I use an ATV a fair amount when I hunt. A few words of caution. Do not drive off established roads or ATV trails. Do not drive on paved roads. Never transport a passenger unless you have a machine that is factory rated for multiple people. Always wear a helmet. If you do not obey these rules in northern Ca. the rangers love to write you a ticket and I have been told that it will cost you 300.00+. Now on the good side I hunt by myself a lot and I park my truck on a hill or in the bottom of some canyon and ride my quad to the top or way up the canyon. I then hunt one way downhill (mostly) back to my truck then I go get my ATV. These walks will sometimes take up the better part of my day. I have a few minor physical issues and this allows me to hunt some pretty rough country without having to climb up the worst parts. Idaho (the area I hunt) has decided to close all of the ATV trails during big game season to hunters so they are not as useful there as they once were. I can still use it there I just have to stay on 4-wheel drive roads.
I like a lot of other hunters HATED ATV riders until I started having issues getting around. What bothered me the most was they guys roaring up and down the roads or driving off road and damaging the area. I try to keep that in mind when I am using mine and drive responsibly and never anywhere there is no road.

Thanks for that John! I don't even own one yet, but the ranch I'll be spending a lot of time on has a lot of hilly terrain. I watched a guy working with one and it just seemed so much more efficient.
