Looking forward to pix and stories on your return. You scored one there last year, didn't you? Or was that in NM? Or was that someone else?

Awesome. Looks like last year had a 53% success rate. With this spring's rain antler growth should have been great. I bet you top that NM bull.

Good Luck.........Picture and story to follow? Pretty confident, you sure can't say that before a deer hunt here in the D zones.
Have a great trip, are you taking the trailer or do you pack in and camp?

I just got back from my elk hunt in AZ with USO.

It was a great hunt. On opening morning my guide and I ran across a herd of about 80 elk with 3 6x6's all in the 320 class and a huge 6x7 380 class bull. As the front of the herd passed by some cows winded us and I couldnt get a shot at the 380 class bull that was in the back of the herd.

We looked for that big bull for the next 3 days, passing up on shots at 300 class bulls, but couldn't find him again. There was a gang of "hunters" chasing the elk with ATV's and radios all day long. Not giving them a chance to bed. The rut had finished early also, so the bulls were moving into batchler groups and were harder to find.

On the forth day we spotted a decent 5x5 feeding at the top of a deep canyon. We ranged him and he was 126 yards away. Not having a shot at his vitals, I watched him for about 15 minutes before we gave me a clean shot at his vitals. I had plenty of time to decide whether to take him or hunt for a bigger bull. I finally decided to take him. One shot from my Knight .50 cal. and a 340 grain PR Dead Center bullet did it's job. The shot went into his sholder and through both lungs and exited the other side. He went maybe 30 yards before pilling up against a tree.

Here are the pics.....

Awesome Hook,
Is he bigger than the one from last year can't really tell from the mounted pic. Did he know you guys were on to him or did the lights go out from out of no where. What kind of scope did you put on that rifle. I think that time you brought it to the range you just had those illuminated iron sights.

I'm sure you wanted that big boy, but meat in the freezer is better than meat on the hoof... Nice shooting.

You used USO in New Mexico last year too, huh? Obviously you like dealing with them. How are they price-wise, compared to other outfitters?
