Anyone else effected by the wildfires in eastern Arizona. Have a tag for the Coon Canyon area and it looks like most of it may have burned. Still waiting on word whether or not the hunt will go on.

AZDFG says all hunts are still on and the U.S.Forest Serviice says that all of the Apachi National Forest is closed for now but alot can change in 8 weeks and that rain would have the greatest effect on areas opening up.

I was just up in the coconino and talked one of the USFWS firefighters. He claims the animals re-occupy burned areas within days of minor fires. On something of this magnitude, I dunno.

Within days sounds good to me because hunt is in 8 weeks and I can't wait!

Now I wish my hunt was later raising my chances for a decent hunt after these devestating fires. The good news is I am going elk hunting, you play the hand your dealt!

That sums it up.
It's a little too early to tell what the effects of this fire will be, seeing as how it's still burning. Good luck and have fun, but remember, a bad day hunting beats a good day at work. Take what nature offers you, be it elk, or just time away.
I do think this fire has been needed for a long time, and in the end will be beneficial.

Thanks, I agree the forest needs this and my little inconvenience is nothing compared to the people who lost there homes and businesses.

The Game Specialist for the burn area in southern Arizona told me that just one week after the fires went through some areas that the grass was already sprouting back up and that elk were using it.

Fourth of July weekend and the entire Apache National Forest is still closed. With only four weeks till the hunt I may be out of a $600+ tag.

it's taken a few years and the deer have come back very well after the San Diego fires, I hope the Blue Primitive doesn't burn one of my favorite places on this planet.

sdnative, Sounds like a prime area if I can just get the Forest Service to cooperate. Thanks for the sightings!
