Unit 10 late rifle cow for me. Quite pleased with that considering I drew 7W rifle bull last year.

It's been a good couple of years.

Now for another several months of intense scouting. Never hunted unit 10 before.

That is a TOUGH hunt, but there are some sweet bulls, if you can find them. 18A and the northern parts of 19B probably have the highest densities. G&F used to send each tagholder a packet of info to help themfind some elk. Not sure if they are still doing that or not. Good Luck!

Did pretty well. I grew up on the southern border of 7w in Parks, so I know the area pretty good. Spent a total of about 30 full days in the field scouting before the hunt last year as well.

My boy took a spike on day 3, but missed a shot on a very nice 6x6 on opening day about noon off a deflection off some branches. We were seeing good bulls all 3 days we hunted (and throughout my scouting). Saw one tremendous bull opening morning at 800 yards. Big, big bull.

We got high up in the mornings well before first light, and glassed until we saw something to make a stalk on. I was planning on having him hold out a couple more days for a nice bull, but when the spike came out of the treeline, he wanted to take him. As my brother says, it's easy to talk about holding out for a big bull until there's elk hair in the scope.

It was my boy's hunt, so it was his call. Made a nice 274 yard shot on his bull, and it was done.

7W is a good unit if you put in the time scouting, although I'd venture to say there's pretty much elk year round in all parts of the unit.
