I have recieved word that AS (SMP & JHO Prostaffer) and LD (shoe salesman) left Sac at 0200 this morning to Hunt in the Red Bluff area. They are hunting about 300 acres of private and about 600 acres of land-locked BLM land. Rumor has it that they left the sticks and strings at home and took their rifles

No cell service up there, so we will have to wait for a report and Pictures.

Must be nice to have all these places to hunt. I dont know what it's like to get invited to go hunting with someone in their spot.

The bows stayed at home as I brought along the 7mm while our favorite shoe salesman went with the scatter gun....we hunted the ridge tops at first light trying to locate some critters, once that failed, we hit the creeks and split up hoping to bump a hog or twelve....when that didn't work, we hiked and scouted and after a grueling 4 hours we had a little bite to eat, then back at it to check a game cam and one more creek bottom.

Seems as if a bear decided didn't like getting his picture taken and removed the camera bending the mounting bracket. From his tracks, it really looks like to be a nice bear. His tracks and scratch marks are in every creek bottom and on all the roads. Look forward to seeing him in person

A good trip even though we really didn't see anything (except 30 buck rubs), but we did learn the lay of the land and some likely spots once the acorns begin to drop........hunting property where you don't see another footprint, beer can, or candy wrapper is absolutely great and will hopefully get a return trip in the near future.

A big thanks to the land owner for allowing us to hunt/scout his land.

Chop you are invited--If you like digger pines, jack rabbits, quail, deer rubs, and a few angry bears--this is the place for you.

....and, a man that has a hinged window on his screened in porch for shooting hogs, doesn't need another spot.

Well I survived! I could barely walk after the trip, (AS made me carry alot of camera and film gear, something about him being PROSTAFF and the need to document every second of his hunts) now I know why Jeff likes to call his ranch "Broke Back Ranch"! We hunted all day and couldn't find them piggys, but it was a ton of fun to say the least. It's a beautiful ranch with mucho game sign everywhere, alot of oaks, tons of water but we just weren't able to connect the dots. There was huge bear tracks all over the place and Jeff had a few pictures of a couple nice bears on his game cam. I almost killed myself after a 15 foot fall from a steep ridge and had AS thinking that my legs were broken. It's only a matter of time when pigs will be there again. NEXT TIME

From the ridges to the bottoms of the creek are extremely steep and the best way to get down is slide....well, lucky for me LD didn't decide to take my 22-250 with him today because as he was sliding towards the creek, it went from steep to vertical and as i hit the bottom...i could hear a loud pop as tony collapsed on the ground, thinking it was his leg and from the look on his face, i knew we were in for a long day...but luckily for him, the soft creek bottom cushioned his fall and the poping sound was only his 870 hitting a log..

Cecil, I think they did not get into hogs because because LD was carring all of AS's gear...and complaining about it the whole time! I took AS fishing on my boat the other day and he had a lot of gear--you know how those prostaffer's are!

At least we know the deer and bears are there! I am just hoping when it gets in the 100's, the pigs will move up higher in search of cover and water
<
I am friends with a neighbor who is about 1000 ft in elevation below my property, and about 4 miles away as the crow flies. They shot 7 pigs last weekend...and were seeing groups of 20. He has offered his shop for me to store my ATV in.
