I said I would try for some more pictures and I got some dandys. Ron got a two for one deal. And I got a nice sow and a wall hanger. Pics of sow to follow at a later date but I have these tonight.
He's got to be 325 going to try and find a scale to use in the morning. And the bad part was that he was still breathing in the first shots didn't relize it till I sat on him bit scarey and stupid on my part
, but
.270WSM 150gr silvertip at around 240 yards one shot drop.
Here's one more. Surely wasn't "hunting" by a long shot but I'll take it. I'll worry about getting "good" and a bow some day. I'm still happy with it and the land owner is just happy to see them dead.
Allthough this isn't hunting in California but in Texas it would have been legal hunting no Dep.Permit required. Shot this pig by moon light no spotlight was used, and I'm prettie sure thaere are many states that consider it legal, just have to get a permit here. but I'm sure this is going to start a huge debate(argument) so have fun with it. Teeth messured 2 1/4" not too big but better than a poke in the eye. Again, I'll take it.
Got Two more like him last night will ppost pictures when i can. First all black 300# range 2 1/2" cutters and the second was a black and white 300+ with 3" cutters and a really small rearend, classic if wasn't for the white. Land maggots I tell ya, and the sows must be coming in to season cause these bigin's are coming out of the bush all of a sudden.
Finally gfetting around to posting the pics of Ron's wall hanger. Nice Mix blood Boar 3" and at least 320 lbs. I need a scale! I shot another nice 300 lber before this guy and after gutting and loading we headed north bound thru the ranch. as we turn a bend Ron says Hey stop there is two pigs out there. I take the Binos from him and look past his two to see a group of about 50 told him about them and handed the Binos back. He finds them picks up his jaw and says ok what do you want to do. I looked over the field agian and decided that the two that he first spotted showed the most promise for a trophy for him. We climbed out of the truck and I handed him the .270WSM I took the 30-30 for back up and off we went. Down a hill thru a field across a road we went. as we reach the bluff that seperated us I stopped him and we sat down due to the group of 30 or so sow's coming in from the east single file like a marching line. after they started to feed I think the Boars or us spooked them they took off northeast into the brush like a shot. I stood up slow surprised as hell to see these two Boar and the other group still feeding away like nothing happend. away we go again so 400 yards from the truck and now slideing on our rears 80 yards form these two Boar I tell him to take one. He ask's if I'm ready and should he do the count down and I said nah just kill him when your ready 4 seconds later tick-boom. Pig drops and runs at the same time second is allready 30 yards up hill he's running sideways I heard the thump I know he's hit good Ron racks another round and shouts Aww S$%^ he's running I said don't worry he's not going far it stumbles and make a dust cloud and gets up agian( at that point I was really strating to get concerned we might loose him) another 50 yards and just as I'm going to tell him to try and hit him again down he goes does the spin and funky chicken in a dust ball. I take off to him telling Ron to get the truck and that's about the end of that story, Pics show the results. Congrats to Ron on a hell of a pig and a damn good stalk Dep Permit or not No lights no sents not out of the truck hell of a good spot, stalk and kill.
Yeah I'm not sure I got to figure out what the deal is there is to many pigs to grow hay but come the rains they will be gone as pattern goes. Might have to do some rifle hunts though we shall see what he says. I could use some input about who is willing to pay what and what you expect. There is no cabin on the property allthough there is a new hotel coming to town soon. Hogs a plenty that's for damn sure. I'll keep posting as we keep "harvesting" cause I sure as hell won't call it hunting at this point there is just too many hogs. I will pass on anyones input too and see if I can't talk him into allowing some paid waiver signed guys partake in the adventures.
And you know I have to say that everything that I've been told about big Boar Hogs and crappy maet was not true this time. I took the backstraps from one and donated the rest to a local labor guy and am kicking myself. I gave one starp to a local oldtimer and the other went on the Trager with an "831+1" Spice rub cooked to 155 deg. and let me tell you what it was some damn tasty moist juicy pork. Way more pork flavor the any Farmer John's Safeway stuff and not at all tough or dry like I had been told.
Nice piggies, you got a great little fillin the freezer deal there, good for you. I don't find the big ones that bad either. I have even heard that in high end restaurants they pay much more for the large ones (wild pigs) and that the meat is better. Not sure I beleive that but I had heard it from someone. Anyway, keep blasting away and posting up the pics for us
