Some are even pitching in a little extra. I'm thinking we'll probably end up a bit over the costs (about $5/ea.) so...
I think someone's bringing a fire ring (OneTrack maybe?) so I'll set up a JHO ice chest with beverages (waters & assorted adult beverages) close to it or in the middle of camp. Anyone there's welcome to help themselves to it.
An empty donation can with a slotted lid will be there to cover. That'll be easier than trying to catch up with everyone Friday or Saturday--some prefer that over mail...I'll just load the chest up beforehand.
If anything is left over after the gift cost + beverage tub costs (ice + beverages), it will go back to JHO as a donation. Figure it'll be close to $350'ish going into covering the costs. So, that averages out to about $7/$8 ea.
Hey "Mid",
How ya' doin' buddy??? Finally got this new system up and running and glad to be back on the "airwaves"...Yup, count me in pardner! Whatever you got in mind for Phillip, I'm sure it'll be right on the mark!!! Lookin' forward to seein' all you JHO regulars at the Slam next week....until then, take care, drive careful and keep your powder dry!
Anyone coming thru Bakersfield on their way up? If so I can pitch in I don't get any money till tomorrow about 2PM. If any of you can stop in for a bit call me at 661-827-8736 & I'll meet up with ya someplace & I'll pitch in $5, if not I can mail it out on monday. Or if somone drives a Mercedes up to the hunt call in for a flat & I'll come up there for a few on Sat.
jmabbot888 >> I'll be driving thru Bakersfield (I-99) and will refuel there, but it might be on the later side Thursday evening--probably 9 - 10 p.m...probably closer to 9 than 10 depending on work. If that's not too late, let me know...
Thanks to Paul, Mel and Scott~! I've got your names on the list that'll go along with our token of appreciation...Also, Speckmisser's gift arrived in good shape.
When I first saw this post, it was kinda like catching mom and dad hiding your Christmas presents. You just GOTTA snoop, but you want to be cool too.
So anyway, I held off on posting on this thread until after the fact, and now I just have to say a HUGE thank you to all of you guys who chipped in. The knife is a beauty! Good call, Bill. When you wrote that you had "an idea what he might like", you pegged it!
For those of you who didn't know what the gift would be, it's a sweet Jerry Fisk designed Camillus Bowie from the Living Treasure Series. I was gonna post a pic, but the digital camera seems to have pooped out again. I'll get some shots up soon as I get some more batteries.
Anyway...
It's a heck of a thoughtful thing, and to say it was unexpected would be an understatement. I don't know that I deserved such an awesome gift, because none of the work that went into this event seemed all that hard. Heck, I enjoyed the majority of it, just knowing what a blast the Ham Slam was gonna be.
I don't think I thanked ya'll nearly enough at the Slam on Saturday night. I'm afraid I was running on a serious sleep deficit, and the tequila wasn't helping matters. Besides, I think I probably speak better with the written word than I do with my vocal cords.
So... THANK YOU ALL!
I knew it all along, but it bears repeating... The JHO crew is definitely top notch!
