Arizona is again going to break an all time high for number of applicants! Thanks to the new internet application service. I think that the internet service is quick & easy, but I hope everyone that puts in & draws a tag will go hunting. It is kind of scary if you think about your odds now!!!

What do you guys think? I really don't have a problem with the system unless we get some fly by night hunters that never set foot in the woods!

Thanks,
Craig S.

It make's it convenient for the hunter's, but it also make's it easier for sierra clubber's and other eco nut's to put in for draw's hoping to get a tag and save a critter's life.

I'm scared Kakaless about Colorado doing the same thing next year. I'm gonna dump my pref points on deer and then go under the semi-protection of residents getting 60% of the tags even though I think it should be at least 80%. I think drawing a tag as a second choice will soon be a thing of the past.
Its time for me to get the buddies together and start going to commission meetings and letting opinions be known.

Calm down, COHunter. I read on the CO website where they are going to charge the full amount up front, then give refunds/credits after the draw. Essentially like writing a charge card purchase check like I use to apply for more places than I can afford. AZ and UT just need $5 up front, and hit your card for the tag fee after the draw. NV charges $10 up front. By the way, any thoughts on a CO muzzleloader deer tag in unit 7,8,9,19,191? I got that as a second choice, my only tag so far. I was thinking of a backpack hunt in one of the wilderness areas. If nothing else, the scenery should be good.

Its still gonna allow alot more people to apply for a hunt, Almost everyone has a CC and can afford to make payments rather than chunck down a bunch of money at once.

Yes I can put you on a very easy Muzzleloader hunt in 19 & 191. PM me and I'll tell you where. I'll be getting a leftover Doe Tag for 19 & 191 if they have some.
Super easy hunt

The use of the internet will permanently lower everyones chances of getting drawn for hunts. It use to be that you would need a few thousand dollars to put in for hunts out of state. This would eliminate a majority of the people that didn't want to "front" the money. Now with the internet application process it allows everyone to use their credit cards and apply for every hunt in almost every state. This internet apllication process is handy, but I wish it was was like it was before. I actually didn't mind sending out $5,000 each year for the chance to get an awesome tag somewhere.

It may be my own observation, but the fees for a NR are less in AZ than other states. I would have applied via the mail if I needed to, but an elk tag is just a little more than KALIF resident and I have better odds of getting drawn in AZ.

Every one seems to beleive that if a guy draws a tag and does not kill an animal that has a negative effect on hunting. The DFG sets quotas based on odds. So if the number of people killing animals goes down then more tags will be issued. They try to predict the number of kills. If a guy does not kill an animal or step foot in the woods it does not affect your odds at all. You just got to benefit from his donation.

How about the guy/gal holding out for something really big. His quality hunt probably doesn't need a "kill" to feel complete.

or, in KA, the DF&G has some formula for guessing the deer taken in a zone. i.e. x9a on its figures had a 20.3% success rate, but the "guess" rate was 28%. Does AZ do the same?

Nathan,

I know that the department takes into count that not every hunter in the field will bag an animal. I also realize that they adjust permitt numbers if there desired success rate was not met. I don't think that is rocket science.
Scenerio:
If I get drawn for archery bull & you get drawn for archery bull in the same unit, GREAT! Say you decide that this tag is way back on your priority list & you decide not to go. THATS EVEN BETTER FOR ME IF I HAVE A TAG, LESS COMPETION! If I am one of the other 2,000 hunters that put in for the permit & did not draw, I am pretty upset that somebody else has the permit that I have DREAMED about & is not even going to go. Now tell me how that does not effect my chances of getting drawn.
I am smart enough to know that there is no way to know which applicants are going to go hunting, but at the same time it sure is a shame that somebody can careless about a permit that others have waited a life time to get!

Thanks,
Craig Steele
