AZ ELk Archery, 5B South,

Well based on my CC I drew and early archery elk tag for AZ in unit 5B S. I hunted there once several years ago with my brother(same hunt) for 5 days, we ran into a lot of elk so I have a little experiance in the unit. But I would love any advice or additional info if anyone has any. My brother hunted a total of 10 days and a few close calls but some bad luck (small branches etc) got in the way and he ended up not getting one but it was a good hunt so I am pretty hopefull!!

Congrats. I have hunted archery 5B South a couple times. Always had good luck up by Lost tank, 59 tank.

My son drew a rifle tag for 5B, the late season. I'm a archer, need to find a rifle for him. Not sure where in the unit we will be at time of the year.

devobrodie, I have not hunted that unit specifically, but see a lot of elk crossing between 6A and 5B South. You might want to try by the area across from the "Poor Farm" turn off into 6A on the 5B South side.

I drew Unit 9 Bull 6 years ago, but that was in the wrong time of year to be of any help for your hunt, we meet some locals that told us they hunted on the east end of the unit down in a canyon area for the late cow hunt, not really sure where it was but you may know the area? Good luck on your hunt you guys should have a few freezers full!

I just ordered a buncha stuff from elknut.com hoping to learn the meanings of each vocalization and the proper responses to them. This year will be my first elk hunt...pretty excited about it.
