Looks like you guys were really into 'em. I hear ya about bugling in Nov. I shot a cow on Nov 16th a couple years back and the bulls sounded like it was the middle of the rut....wild.

OK, you guys appear to have the anticipation that Lurediver and Rancho Loco on the grand opening of a flea market. A friend of mine told me, last summer, that he had drawn a coveted Elk tag in Nevada. After hearing this, I offered to give him a hand scouting and tagging along hunting for a few days. This hunt is very hard to draw and it took my buddy 15 years to draw it as a NV resident. My friend is connected and knows some great hunters in Nevada--we had good intel on areas to hunt, which was huge! All in all, we were into Bulls from the first day. We did see a monster through the scope from about three miles away--this makes it a little eaiser to pass on low 300 bulls! On some days, my buddy had shots on over 10 branch antlered bulls (5x5's,6x6's) and we saw at least 10-15 bulls per day...not counting rag horns. The bull to cow ratio must be 75 to 100! Some of these bulls were over 300-320 BC. I was surprised to find that the bulls were still bugling and even had cows in harems. Yet the bulls that were talking, and were with cows, were lesser bulls that picked up the cows after the big boys left and moved into holes to wait out rifle season. You know you are in a good area when you have 320 satellite bulls! My buddy had taken the entire two week season off from work and was prepared to hunt all day every day to harvest a Monster! Oh, BTW, he is still hunting! He had his sights set on a bull 350 BC or better...and I don't blame him! I guess it is a matter of hunting hard looking at a lot of bulls and bumping into that huge one. He has been giving me updates and he will email me a harvest picture when he has one down...we shall just see how big it is!

A high 330 BC bull...through the spotting scope! The picture does not do him justice!

JT,

It was great to meet you and see your assortment of footage and pic's. That elk vocalization is mindblowing...

At least at the flea market you can buy a churro & hotdog to buy some time. This is worse than watching paint dry, Im over it.

I hate crap like this.

What do you guys think the chances are that he'll regret passing on that last bull in the rifle scope? I'd say 60-70%.

sounds like a great experience for you. You will be ready when you draw that tag! The lessor bulls were still bugling here today!

Yes, Wye thanks...you get to look at great bulls there all winter. I hope to draw that tag someday, but I might have to move to Reno to improve my odds!

Great looking country!

I got a phone call from my buddy and he is still hunting! He said, since I left, the bull encounters have been scarcer, but he is still in elk. He finally had a shooter bull in the 360-370 class at two hundred yards but it was in a burn with a lot of dead trees and branches in the way. Reportedly, there were 30 head of elk with about 10 bulls in the mix. He told me as he was inching his way closer, he heard a shoot below him and watched a 5x5 drop from the herd!
<
Later, when he talked to the other hunter, he appeared depressed and said the had shot the wrong bull!
<

He is going to see it thru and try for a big one...oh, BTW, and he knows where a 380 bull is

A nice non-shooter at 200 yards

Good for your buddy. My Uncle drew the late season tag here in North East NV and is still out hunting. He got reception yesterday evening and called to let me know he had a nice 6x7 glassed up and was just waiting for him to give him the money shot. He's been at it for 9 days now and I believe he has 15 on that tag so he better make a choice. We have the horses on stand by along with the quads just waiting for the call.
