Thanks Zim...I actually am splurging and hired a guide for this hunt...Since it has good potential for a whopper like you took, and I am limited on time (I just spent 9 days chasing elk in New Mexico)...and it is December and likely to be cold as hell

...I thought it would be best to leave it to guys who know the area very well....

I drew with 5 preference points so I consider myself pretty lucky and with the highly recommended guide I hired, I am hoping for a great hunt....Right now I am not sure what areas he has in mind...He indicated that it will be very weather dependent, but he will use trucks, ATV's, horses, or snowmobiles to get us to where the elk will be at that time of year, then we'll hoof it and glass the areas to locate bulls...I can't wait!

rodngun,

Are your guides the Marques in Ely? They have quite a presence around there. I've not seen any of the 400" class bulls produced by any other guides there. From what I hear, it's because he pays bounties. They have like 30 people scouting for them.

Hi Zim,

I am using Mitch Buzzetti of Nevada High Desert Outfitters out of Lamoille....He came highly recommended from several different sources....

I don't know that guy, but anyone could put you on a 330" bull in this unit group. If you are paying someone, I would not be happy unless they got me a 360"+. I'm just sayin.

Don't shoot anything less than a 350".

By the way, as you can see I was like a rail by the end of this hunt. I lost 40 pounds getting in shape for it, from 223 to 183, then lost another 10 chasing bulls 9 days up & down the mountain. Net loss 50 pounds.

The ground where I took the photos was steep. My camera was angled for the photos making it look level.

Looks like you had several trophy bulls around. Must have made things even more exciting. Great looking bull, thanks for the photos.

Thanks Zim...that's my target..a 350+ bull...Not like I have seen a lot of them though...I'll be relying heavily on the guides and my elk hunting partner who has guided down at Santa Rosa Island and knows what a monster should look like....December won't come soon enough!
