Got back from Santa Cruz Isaland yesterday and had a great time. My partner and I got 6 hogs (5 boars and a sow) and the group got 26 altogehter. I guess my worries about there being some hogs left for us to hunt were unfounded. Everyting went perfectly. We missed the rain Monday and the winds died down by Tuesday for a great day. I'll try to post some pictures when I get them back.
Met Hoghunter there and swapped stories. Everybody got at least 1 hog. The hogs were pressured a little so you had to get them to come out from the scrub bushes and try and get them when they slowed down. We found they would only run about 50 yds before slowing down.
I want to thank JHP for posting info on the hunt. I was checking out this forum for info on Javelina, and came across the S. C. Island hunt. I also want to thank SDHUNTER and COUGAR for the info on the hunt; it was invaluable in helping us prepare.
Now I have to go to the butcher and get some sauage made (saved most for cooking).

Nice Work!  What area were you in?  I know the DFG was moving the camps around to try to keep each area from getting overhunted.  Sounds like it worked. Any teethe to those boars? Congrats.  Now we need the pics.

We were area 2, by the Christy Ranch. One boar had about a 2" tooth.
When the DFG folks were asked about future hunts, they said it wouldn't hurt to write to the Nature Conservancy and encouorage them to allow future hunts, even if fees were involved.

DO NOT mention fees.  If the conservancy really wants to eradicate 3500 hogs from the island, WE'LL be more than happy to volunteer.  Their option is to pay a depridation specialist.

Nice Salty!  That area did not hunt too well when we were there.  Only 2 pigs were taken and it was the lowest producing field.  Looks like you were rewarded for your efforts.

Back from Santa Cruz. Had A great time & great hunt I went the same time Salty went.
Met him at airport.  Would have liked to hunt with him.I was an alternet so I did'nt hunt with my
huntin budy.I hunted with the guy who's partner got called to sea {in the Navy}.His name is Chuck
out of Visalia.I forgot my camera so I did'nt get any Pic's (kick me).Salty sent some o his pics. Thanks
or them Salty. We were in area 2 and saw 11 pigs.We got 3 of them.Salty did the best with 6
The pigs were in the brush about 20 min. after light if you did'nt get them then you had to find them and see
if could get them out of the brush.
We all should email or write the Nature Conservancy for the chance to hunt the Island.Even the ones that did'nt get drawn
still had the chance.I'am going to.also Doug Updike
