I caught a hog on both Monday and Tuesday.

This the the boar I caught on Monday. Estimated about 130 lbs.

Caught this barr hog this morning. He is rather big ... easily over 200 lbs ... and mean. He tried to tear everything up. They are buddies now ... put them in a holding pen together.

That little one looks like he's got good teeth started on him... you gonna slaughter 'em, or are they going to market?

Yeah he does. The big one (another pic below) has larger ones. He was biting the trap ... trying to bend 4 ga wire ... and got his cutters stuck. Took him 10 minutes to get loose.

I am thinking about harvesting them over the holidays. Together they would only bring a little over $100 selling them ... so it's hardly worth a tank of gas and all the grief loading them just for that. I find they load much easier when they are dead.

Those are some nice sized pigs. Chewing on 4 guage wire doesnt sound too pleasant. What is the frequency that you capture a pig in the trap?
I'm going to be on your side of town during thanksgiving RLL. I'll also be goose hunting the Katy prarie (with kaspar from here on JHO) on Friday.

RLL that looks like a Barr hog. Upper[/b]
Yeah, it was. Surprised the heck out of me. No clue as to who would have castrated him and released him. You have to have a federal permit to trap in this area ... it is technically a federal wildlife preserve and the Army Corp of Engineers controls it. They would yank your permit if you released a trapped hog.

When I walked up to the trap ... it was violent. It went into a crazy fit ... like a child throwing a tantrum. Attacking the wire and ramming it. A really mean pig ... would have killed me if I gave it a chance. I looked and saw it was a male ... so I got my getter to remove it. As I was driving to my holding pen ... I kept looking in my mirror because it looked like a sow from the backside. If it was a sow I would have left it in the back portion of the trap and re-set the front portion. I kept doubting my call ... so finally I pulled over and doubled checked it. To my surprise it was a barr. I estimate it to be 4 or 5 years old. Snout has elongated, chest is thick and deep and hair is starting to gray.

Yeah, he was nice sized. Well over 200 lbs ... 4' long ... 29" tall. My tops are 6 ga cow panels to keep the weight down ... and is 4' from the ground ... and he bent the heck out of it. That's why I only use 4 ga on the sides. He would have done some serious damage if they were 6 ga.

Depends on the time of year and the rain. This is a federal flood control property. During the summer it is dry and the hogs hang in the lower part ... so I may not catch but a couple a month. During the winter it is wetter and I usually catch a couple a week. I've caught as many as 11 at once. I could put my traps closer to the bayou ... but when it rains a lot they close the flood gates (to protect downtown Houston from flooding) and they could easily be under 10' of water. As is, I'm on higher ground and when it rains a lot it pushes the hogs into my area.

There is great goose hunting here. Good luck. I'll be shopping with the wife. Something about early bird specials and 5am. Deer hunting and 5am I understand ... but shopping? Hmmmm. BTW, where are you located?

You would probably be in this mood if you got castrated.

Here in Texas ... the state allows you to kill hogs by any legal means at any time 365 days a year. Trapping is legal. Night hunting is legal. There are no limits. I've trapped over 40 hogs this year. Trapping is slow in the summer (May to Sept) and best in the winter (Dec to Feb).
