I wondered the same thing, and used my .45 ACP Sig as my backup. But never again. Downed a 200+ lb. sow with a lung shot, but she was still kickin. After the THIRD shot to the head, she was dispatched. Those .45s are just way too slow and don't have the penetration power of a .357, .44 mag by a long shot. I doubt if they'd penetrate the cartlidge armor around the front shoulder of a decent sized boar, either. Anyway, from my experience, I think .45 acps are real lame when dealing with an armored, thick skulled, tough critter like our boars.
