I am desperately looking for public or private land to hunt turkey and/or deer (archery) in the 680 Corridor from Sunol/Pleasanton to Fairfield and beyond. Am I tilting at windmills?

DFG says many of the cities and counties have rules prohibiting discharge of bow or gun so even if I found a private landowner willing to let me hunt I may be prohibited by local ordiance.

This is all crazy for a New England boy who used to just walk into any forest and hunt, hunt, hunt.

Any help or direction would be appreciated regarding this area and any nearby counties.

Thanks to all.

It's in the city limits you can't shot in county you can. I know you can head down here to Hollister area and BLM is plentiful, about 2 hours tops from you. Saw a turkeyon the side of the road at 156 and union just the other night and know a guy that gets them out at San Benito Cattle Company land in season. Deer all over if you know how to find them and pigs too.

Probably the closest deer hunting you will find to the bay area is just north of Lake Berryessa and east of Clear Lake. Lots of BLM/DFG/National Forest up around there. Locally it's either Water District Lands (read "don't set foot on it") or private. You're pretty looking at a 2-3 hour drive to be able to hunt.
I'm sure about many of the different ordinances regarding bow shooting but do that each county and city have different rules.
