A friend and I are looking into hunting Buff in 2006 or 2007. At this point we are still open as to where to go. Alex will be using a .416 Rigby and so could I however I would really like to use my .366 DGW for the hunt. This is a direct neck down of the .416 Rigby case to 9.3mm. I would use 300 grain bullets as I have on my last two hunts. If any of you have some addvice as to who is good and where to go I would appriciate the info. J.J., I was wondering if you could give me some info and trophie fees for your co. My Email is theworkshop@tds.net

Not sure if you have ever hunted africa before but if you have not I strongly suggest you do a plains game hunt first to understand whats involved and you will be far better prepared for a good buffalo hunt the second time.

If you have the funds available to do a plains game hunt first and while still there do a buffalo hunt thats good too.

Tanzania has the biggest bulls on avearge, Botswana is next. Both will likely be 14 day hunts and 4-5 days of air travel round trip. Some charters are also involved to get to the consessions in some places. Both places will be in the upper teens for cost at a minimum without travel costs. I would budget 20K for a trip to either place. You will also have the chance for little additional money to shoot plenty of other game and for additional trophy fees leopard, elephant, and lion in some cases. These locations or a bit me "elite" for the prices they get.

Zimbabwe is out Don't go way to many issues in my opinion. They have buff and they have some cheap buffalo hunts. It's becasue so few people are willing to risk the time there with the current government, namely Mugabe! DON"T go there. Som people are still going and some have had good reports. Others have had horror stories and think they were lucky to escape alive.

Zambia I can arrange for about 10K all inclusive (except airfare)and they have good buff and great accomadations. All safe and secure and no problems. Hunts here will be about 7 days long and you will see plenty of shootable bulls

RSA has limited buff but some excellent ones. I can arrange hunts here for 14500 all inclusive (except air) These hunts might take all the ten days they are alloted.

Comparing this to a Plains game hunt I can do that for 5K and include 8 full days of hunting and 5-7 animals! again all inclusive except airfare.
PLains game hunts are much more enjoyable and far more shooting. It's the greatest big game hunting value in the world today.

J.J. I have been to S.A. twice, just got back from the second trip on the 27 of August 2004. I have taken a total of 15 critters there 11 the first time and 4 this trip. You are right there is no better deal then plains game and I am still looking for many. However I would still like a buff with my .366 or if I have to with a .416. You mentioned Zambia would this be a country where one could take their wife as she is my best friend and camera person, we are trying very hard to get the .366 ligimised. ( I can get ammo with the correct head stamp ) Not counting my wife there would be two hunters and your prices seem to be good so if you can send me some info I would apriaciate it.
