I have a son that is a trooper! He's five and walked roughly 3-4 miles looking for sheds with me today. What makes it more remarkable, he did it after being sick for two days - and twice he had to stop to use the rest of the 'emergency' toilet paper! Although I didn't find a shed; I was honored to be in the woods with him. He found the shed on cleared slope that faced SE. I told him to walk a trail that ran north and I would circle around (within eyesight) and meet him at the top. On that trail he found his horn - he was happy! I ask him if he wanted me to put in my backpack and he said he wanted to carry it. He carried it for two miles and then gave it to me to carry (I did with honor.) This young man had blood running from one forearm and more blood from the back of the other arm but he kept pushing through. The last half mile, I had carry him through one thorn patch but he walked the rest with a belly that was rolling more than the hills of Western South Dakota. My nine year old son found his first shed this year on March 3rd - He will walk with the best of them as well. My dream is that my boys will find every shed from now on; I could not find a shed big enough that would match the joy I seen on both of my boys faces this year when they found their first sheds. As I held my sons hand those last two hundred yards to the car, I realized that my son is mine- flesh and blood - and maybe someday he will sit in his deer stand and remember the day the 'old man' taught him that good things can happen - even if you shit yourself twice in one day!

Congrats to you and both your boys!! Great story!!
Tell that little one a BIG CONGRATS from me!! I'd say if you've got him walking all those miles and finding sheds on his own that young, you've got more then just a partner for life.
Hope you and the boys share many more good times afield!!

Great story! Congrats to both your sons for finding there first sheds and being involved in something so great!

By the sounds of it, they will look back on it some day and appriciate it!

Great job to you as well, for showing your boys the wonders of wildlife. I'm sure they will grow up with deep respect and admiration for our outdoors.

Way to go!
