[attachment=40729:attachment]Just got this back from the taxidermist. This was off the big cow my dad tagged last Fall. The tanner said it was the biggest he had ever done, 34 sq ft. Beautiful coloring, every shade of brown an elk can have.
I use one in my camper for a blanket. Don't even need a sleeping bag any more. Gave the one from last year to my daughter for a blanket. I love to see her all bundled up.
Only regrets I have from my hunt last year. Wanted the hide but I made about a 4-inch slice in it while skinning right in the middle of the back. Plus it would have been a full trip in/out just to get the hide. Since our last meat run ended 8-hours after the shot, I wasn't going back down that canyon for the hide.
Nice hide there though. Hopefully I'll get the next one done.
I really want to do that one day soon. Like Kentuck, my elk this last year was about the same, I pretty much lost much interest in the hide after all the meat was packed out. Maybe this year.
Nice trophies. I love how they are displayed . Very tasteful. I'm loving that blanket idea and have wanted to do a bison hide for a bedspread for some time as well.
Very nice! Too, bad my wife does not want any skins around the house (but she likes the food!). Guess I'll have to do like Speck and use one in place of a sleeping bag.
