It is a combo of fat and hair that effects the blood trail. You typically have a better chance if you follow the tracks and look for blood on the brush near wound level.

Pigs do not get that big by being dumb or slow. I have never seen an old, slow senile pig.

First, are we talking WILD hogs, or pen-raised, floppy-eared farm animals on a canned hunt....? Secondly, there are a lot of factors that go into a successful shot: draw length, draw weight, distance, broadhead, arrow (weight), angle and shot placement. I prefer a sharp COC, or chisel point (just not mechanical) bh and a slight quartering away, or broadside shot 40 yards are under. My current specs are 28" DL, and 67lbs. and I've never had a problem with penetration - most (maybe all, if I remember correctly) pass right thru. But that's just me. Good luck!

dont feel bad thats part of wild pig hunting Brushape, about 3 yrs ago on a group hog hunt one of my partners shot a hog just before sundown with a rage 2 blade, there was a decent bloodtrail but still could not find the hog and they brought dogs in and still no hog, still a mystery to me. i went back the next morning to try and track myself during daylight but nothing. i am giving my rages away and now shooting solid 3 blade hellraiser heads now, i am done with mechs except for turkeys!...tra

Big 400lb + hogs are mostly domestic. On a real wild hog, I use a 400gr arrow and a 100gr 3 blade wedge/chisel point. Cheap walmart heads made by realtree.....they bend on most kill shots but are $2 each. I try for a full on side shot through the lungs, quartering shots deflect to often on boars. Hasn't failed me yet. I agree with wild1 and set a 40 yard max.

Yes they really do raise them from babies too rhino size and u pay some high bucks for a cakewalk hunt, but hey each to his own as long as its leagle I am ok with that. But that's not my style of hunting I like the wild dangerous factor of hunting my wild game animals with a challenge of trying find those elusive sucker. Thats why I bowhunt and not gun hunt anymore it was too easy and no challenge. But I am planning on doing a wild pig hunt with dogs soon.......tra

I 12-ringed 3 hogs with a Muzzy 3 blade and lost 'em all. On advice I switched to the Rage 2 blade and haven't lost another one. You know that commercial where Chuck Adams, holding a hatchet says: "It's like throwing an axe through an animal"? He's right. The blood trail is simply repugnant. I'll stick with my Rages.....
