Nic Barca and Yours Truly are going to do it again, hike back into the Wailuku River and try for another bull and a boar or two this Sunday. I've been running and working out for the past 6 weeks, so hopefully instead of staring at Nic's "tail lights" 400 yards up ahead on the trail I'll be staring at them only 350 yards up ahead on the trail. Nic took a monster bull earlier this week and I'm sure photos will be forthcoming soon. As usual, he went in by himself, packed the meat out by himself, and got beaten up in the process.
I bought an ACR AquaFix PLB with integral GPS. It's now registered in my name with all the necessary contact numbers. If I get in a jam that I can't reasonably expect to get out of, I lift the antenna, push two little buttons simultaneously for 1 1/2 seconds, and within 30 seconds Langley AFB has my position pinpointed to within 330 feet. They call the contact numbers and if I don't answer personally or if my wife or friends say that I am out hunting or hiking or fishing, then Langley calls the nearest Search and Rescue agency and off they go. This all happens within an hour of the time I push the buttons. I now carry it everytime I go out in the field or out in the ocean. It really brings me peace of mind.
Turkey season ends Sunday so I'll be going up to Mauna Kea to look for those monster boars I saw grazing alongside the water holes. Will let you know what comes of that.
Aloha for now. I'll probably be in a wheelchair by Monday morning.
