A really rough storm came though. very high wind, and the rain was flying sideways.. aftwords the sky started displaying some twisted colors. taking photos was an after thought, we could not believe the colors in the sky. The photos didnt come anywhere near what it looked like in person.. it was very weird.
have a look .

Wow, it looks like you had a red filter over the lens, cool stuff. How did you get the lightning pictures, technique or luck?

yeah cb, I have been accused of using a heavy hand in photoshop on those pics.. while I did do some sharpening, the colors are straight from the camera.

The lightning was mostly luck.. there was alot of it, so my odds of catching one was a little better. My wife and I were on the back patio. The camera was set on shutter priority with a speed of 2 seconds. Then I would just aim it where alot of the lightning was taking place and hope that I would get some lightning within that 2 seconds.. I had to brace my hand (should have used a tripod) on a chair in front of me.

I was really wanting a big strong bolt, but it didnt happen.. The selection of a shutter speed is totally guess work.. the sun was actually in the process of going down, so initially my shutter was around 1/20 sec, as it got darker, I was able to slow it down and not get blown out shots..

looking back, I wished that I had put my ND (neutral density) filter on. Then I could have left the shutter open for alot longer and captured more lightning... actually there is a storm going on right now.. be back in a second..
