Congrats!

Looking forward to pix and vids.

Interesting results with the ETips, by the way... but really goes to show how tough those hogs can be.

here we go

Ok guys here it goes....
HiFi my buddy Roy, and I headed out to one of our hot spots to glass for some hogs...We got to the top of the ridge and HiFi and I jumped out of the polaris's and hiked back into a canyon that we had seen a ton of sign in over the last few months.
As we got to a high point that could see the whole bowl, I broke out the new swarvo 65 spotting scope just as HiFi spotted a large sow with 10-15 mid sized babies...maybe 20-30lbs of all colors including black and white. We sat there for about 20 mins looking for more pigs but nothing showed. Back to the polaris's we headed about a 30 min hike. After getting back to Roy and the rides, we decided to head to another canyon about 2 miles away, that was always very piggie..
I hadnt even got the spotter out, and sure as chit, HiFi spots a pig going in and out of the brush..I jump out and hike down our side of the ridge to get out of the 50mph winds, and set up the spotting scope. After about 10 mins we spot another black boar 180-220lbs range walking in the brush. HiFi decides that hes going after it and grabs his gear and heads down our side of the ridge to the bottom, and then slowly back up the other side as I guided him on the radio's. We never saw that pig again, but just he got halfway up the other side I spotted another group of four hogs 200yrds above where we saw the first couple.
They were walking around on a trail where it widened, and curled up together and went to sleep...ears up at all times....( I must say that the swarvo scope made a huge difference...I couldnt see them in my leupold binos). I tried to guide HIFi into position but he could get an angle on them for a shot. A couple of mins pass by and they are still sleeping away, and another group of piglets step out into the clearing 50 yrds above the sleeping hogs, one of them was black/white/orange in color..coolest looking pig id ever seen...As HiFi is walking around to maybe get a better angle, another black boar with huge tusk's pops out not 20ft from where he just was, he takes a shot at it but after 20 mins of looking he found no blood or any sign at all(CLEAN MISS):mooning:.
I jump back to the spotter to see if the pigs took off and sure enough they were gone, i went back to the binos for a min, and then back to
the scope and they were back, but now there was 10 of them. I jump on the radio but HiFi's is dead...He's at the bottom of the draw, and the pigs really have no way of escaping without being in the wide open..
So Roy and I jump in the 2 polaris rangers and get over to the other side of the canyon as fast as possible.
We watched the area for awhile, then hiked through it, but nothing except fresh sign, and steaming poop everywhere...The Beds we found were 5-10ft in diameter, and everywhere....but no pigs....where did they go? Hard to say, but they sure did give us the slip....
We arrived back at camp around 100pm, had some lunch and took a lil nap...
230 rolls around and Roy decides he's heading out the pumping station side to check the orchards out, and HiFi and I fueled up and headed back to the same general area's. Nothing...Nada...zilch....About 630 we headed to another high ridge to do some glassin, and again HiFi spots a group of big ol boars, maybe 3-4. With the fading sun, we took off as fast as possible to get close enough for a shot..
We pulled up to a spot where we thought wed have a shot, and hiked back through the brush to an opening big enough to see the ridge to our left. We spot the hogs (343yrds)...tough shot with 50mph winds..so just as we are turning to try and get closer we spot another hog much closer, and decided to hike down after that one. HiFi went up on the ridge, and I went directly down the same trail he was coming down to me on...Once I thought I was close, I would stop every few yrds and take a good look...After about 5 of these, my eyes caught something up ahead about 60 yrds...I grab my binos but nothing, then my scope on my gun and still nothing. Back to my own eyes, and I can see something isnt right about the spot im looking at. Just then the beast emerged from the cover...He's big and pure black....with nice sized cutters from what I can see, I set my cross hairs on his shoulder and watch him come closer and closer..
At 40yrds I thought that this is close enough for me...:skeered:
and I look up above me to see if HiFi was anywhere near me, but I didnt see him anywhere, so I took aim and let the 7mm wsm fly. He takes off like a bat out of hell down the hillside crashing through the brush...
I hiked to where I had thought he was standing but there was no blood, i didnt hear a thump....not even a squeel...Did I miss? I called HiFi over and we looked for 20-30 mins with nothing, till I hear on the radio....PIG PIG you killed a huge hog.....I run down through the darkness as fast as I can, and came to a screaching halt when I saw the massive boar sitting in front of HiFi.....It looked like a small cow with teeth....We gutted the hog there and tried dragging it but that was a joke. So we decided to hike up to the polaris and get the butchering kit and cut the beast in half....HiFi put the bottom half on a pack rack, and I wrpped the upper in a small blue tarp and drug it 1/2 mile up the hill to the polaris...
We got back to camp at 1130pm and had it skinned by 1215. While skinning it we looked for the entry wound, and barely found it. Dime sized hole lower left shoulder, broke front leg like an explosion, and took out left lung..no exit....no bullet?
We ate some dinner at 100am and called it a night...we both slept in that morning and decided we'd had enough fun and headed home....
I dropped that hog off at the butcher, weighed in at 190lbs bone and meat....thats a big ol hog....All sausage for him.....

We had a blast, and I cannot wait to do it again....HiFi I owe you huge...without him I'd still be in that canyon dragging that hog out...
:JHO rocks:Jesse thanks again for this site, its helped me become quite a hog killer....i may not be a hatchet.....but I truely live for this crap...
thanks for reading guys.....Next Hunt Ill bring the meat.....

Nice work, K! Still looking forward to those pix.

And don't let Hatchet fool ya about copper... those big ones can take a hit from a howitzer and not show it. Doesn't matter what kind of bullet you use on those big boys. Glad you didn't have to look far.

Hey hatchet, we had one pack frame and a saw and a couple of decent knives...Im not the best butcher, and didnt want to ruin too much meat..plus it sure does look alot better hanging from the JHO rack back at camp...makes all that hard work feel that much better.....plus im a pretty strong guy, so it was kinda like dead lifting, over and over, and over again..about 1/2 mile or so...Im sorry about the pics....HiFi has them on his camera and video...were at his mercy here

BTW that boar I missed was at around 160 yards and after searching for 2 hours and over 3/4 mile following his trail it came up with no blood and no sign of any hit. I missed outright and am officially retiring the rifle and sticking to the bow :bag-on-head: . When I took the shot I had just run about 300 yards downhill at full speed and had about 3 seconds to fall into a kneel and make the decision to shoot before the boar ran into thick cover. At the last second he quartered toward me and then turned quartering away when I took the shot. I knew at the moment that I had jerked it. He was a good boar about 200 lbs with large teeth. Can't believe I blew the chip shot. Dangit!

Anyways here's the awaited pics of Kel's boar... It was a great hunt that finished at the last minute, with a heck of a lot of work to bring him back to camp. Always worth it! Looking forward to the next hunt!....

Can you discuss the e-tip performance a bit more? Curious on the extent of internal damage as compared to lead bullets you've used in the past. No exit wound, right? and no bullet recovered?

Great pig by the way. First pic looks like some eurasian in there.
