my dad and i went to a milo field that was cut and put in big round bales. there was probably 70 bales but i aint sure. we had been watching about 30 deer there for quite some time and there was a monster in with them. we new he was over 30 inches wide. to tell the truth the only reason he went because he wanted to find the big boys antlers. they werent there to day and we headed in.
i found some small ones right next to the bales and he was not finding any at first.
i told him i would get all the small ones and he would get lucky with the big one.
all of the antlers we found were within 5 feet of the bales except 1. i told him he should start kicking the loose milo arround the bales because an antler could be burried. he thought i was crazy but i finally convined him to and he found 2 that were burried! maybe he will listen next time.
we were walking the rows of bales. 2 rows apiece and he looked ahead at my next bale and saw one a half a second before me. not fair because it was a nice one.
this next one he should thank me for because if he wouldnt have been digging like i told him he would never have saw it. in the pic u can see a half inch of the main beam.
this is what was under the milo. and yes it was the big one we were looking for. we estimate it at 30-33 inches wide. it scores 75
here is my last one and my best for the day. it was at the very last bale.
he came home with 5 and i had 4. only one set and it was a baby. half mine and half his.
i put my 2 white tails that i found yesterday in the pic so my pile doesnt look so lilte next to his. my finds on the right and his on the left
my best for the day
his 2 best for the day
this was not the first time he has went with me this year, but it is the first time he has ever found a shed while looking for one
Wow,Great day!! Looks like dad made it good on the big ones.
When you said you went looking for the big one I thought you meant the mate to the hawg you already found. Now you've got a couple more hawgs to match up.
got permission on a new spot so me and my buddy went out after noon to scout and maybe find a few. i found the first off the county road and boy was it old.
we saw a bunch of tracks on the road and not far off the road was a blow out full of trees. it wasnt big only about 100yards by100yards. we headed in and hit the motherload.
didnt get to many atl pics cause the action was so fast i had to keep moving so my buddy didnt get them all. he came out with 6 freshies and i came out with 10 (2 where old) i also came out with 2 big dead bucks and 2 shedded ones, but i will post them later
got permission on the corn field that was on the other side of the road from the trees that we went to yesterday and found 16.
my buddy was walking the fence and i was off it a ways in the corn. i came up on one and i knew it was the match from one i had found yesterday.
took the picture, picked it up and walked towards my friend to show him. i looked down and saw some huuuge buck tracks that i was following. as i walked with my head down looking at them i stopped when my foot was 6 inches from this, big tracks=big antler!!!!!!
had to step back to take the pic.
2 minutes later my buddy started yelling antler, antler, antler. he picked up 3 in 2 seconds. after that it was to fast to waste my time with atls photos. we found a sunny hill in the corn that the deer had been on when they were shedding and we ran arround picking them up like easter eggs. after we were out of breath and had to many to carry we made a pile by our backpacks and started sweeping the rows. i walked down 1 row and looked only in the 2 other ones on each side of mine. he did the same thing beside me. i told him that nomatter who sees it first, whoevers row it is in is the person that gets it. this kept our eyes from wondering in the other rows and made the day very even.
we matched alot of sets, and our rules are the person that finds the first gets the match for a trade.
the last antler we found was the big boys match and i was very happy.
he came out with 14 and i had 16. all fresh! 30 freshies in 1 day!!!!!!
this picture was after we traded a few so we had the matches together
this is from thursday and friday. they all are from the same group of deer in a 2 mile radius. 46 in 2 days!!!!!
these are all the sets he had 4 and i had 10! i cannot believe how many we matched up
and my pride and joy
scored him at 147 3/8 (with an estimated 19 inch spread)
my best set to date and the best color too
Wow mate.Great finds. That big one is a ripper.Pitty about the footprints in your shed area.I found a glove on my patch in october last year(when they shed here). And have only found one on that spot since.
Great pics.
went out today for an hour or so to a small new spot that i new some white tails wintered on. not 5 minutes into the walk i found this right under a tree limb
i was following a canal and about 8 yards later i had the match
it was almost a hanger! just resting on the base and the rest was in the brush. not as big as the set from friday but a heck of a deer. 8 inch brow tines!
went another 50 yards and found this. it would have had a split brow tine if he wouldnt have broke.
i only went out for a litle more than an hour cause that spot was really small. then this afternon i went to look for the match of a big mulley and i found a year or 2 old mulley.
...shouldn't be hard to recognize him come fall. It takes quite awhile for my dinosaur of a computer to load your thread but it's definitely worth the wait. keep at it man
I'd have to agree your having a great season with some Awesome sheds!! You been back looking for the mate to that hawg you found earlier in the season? That would be an Awesome set if you can find it.
