Right on Rancho! Every time this subject is brought up someone has to wave the big bucks in the air. I'll find just as many deer with my cheap-ass(compared to Sw.'s) Weaver Grandslams than most will with their $1000+ glass. If it treats your eyes good buy it!....hronk

Mnhntr: I didn't mean for it to sound like us vs them. I just get tired of hearing more(meaning $) is better. Whether it is rifles, fly rods, Spotting scopes, etc. There are many out here that can not afford the Sages, Weatherbys, Swarovskis, BMW's whatever. That doesn't mean that they should do without. If someone has a spending limit and asks my opinion I try to help them with suggestions within their means. I'm not picking on you. Every time someone asks for suggestions on buying a product under a certain price, someone comments that it won't be worth a s... unless they spend 3 times that ammount. That just isn't true. We all (at least most of us) started out with the cheap stuff and some of us were lucky enough to upgrade. But we did have to start somewhere, and starting from the bottom is better than not starting at all....hronk

If you can squeeze out a little more $ you might want to look at a relatively new optics company called Vortex. I have been using their $300 Vulture 10x50 roof prism model and really love them. Really bright and crisp all the way to last light. Google search Vortex optics and you will find them.

I have looked through swaros and the glass is very nice, and I am sure the eyestrain thing is true but I seriously doubt looking at the same animal, you would see it with your swaros and I wont be able to see it with my cheapos?

Like it has been said a thousand times, get the best glass YOU can afford be it 300 bucks or 3000 bucks

That said the nikon monarchs are decent.

Thanks for all the input. I think I have settled on the Nikons for around $250. They seem to get some of the best reviews even when compared to the higher end german companies. Since I recently purchased a new rifle my soon to be wife would have my balls in her purse if I went out and spent a grand on a new pair of binos. I agrree buy the best you can because I am a believer in you get what you pay for but when you have to spread your money around some times the smartest thing is to not piss off the woman because it WILL come back to haunt you.

It's like a bottle of wine. Can you tell the difference between a $25 and a $100 bottle of wine? The difference between the $2 and the $25 wine is clear, but at the top end, you pay a lot of money for little improvement. That's true for optics too. I actually could "afford" a $1k pair of binos. But I'd rather spend the money on going hunting. Just my two cents.
