I saw a pair of these on my pond in north Texas this morning. Definitely not common to our area. 25 years of duck hunting and I have NEVER seen these in a spread![attachment=41509:attachment]

WOW! Great catch Trent! I don't think I've seen them in any of my bird books... are they natives to Mexico maybe?

I looked in my book and the closest thing I can come up with is a "Black-bellied whistling-duck".

Something between geese and dabling ducks. Never have heard of these before.

yea, I typod on the caption, they are black bellied whistling ducks and are apparently native to south america. One is still hanging out on the pond, but I think one of my neighborhood hawks may have removed the mate.

Nice capture, even nicer since they are a rare one to see. Congrats!

Yes they do look like a cross between a goose and a duck.
Maybe the mate is sitting an a nest in the brush close by, instead of hawk food.
Congrats on the unique pics.
