Great pic of a great bird. We have a lot of herons here on the Texas coast. Is your pic of a tri-colored blue heron?? Another favorite is the Great Blue. If anyone has ever seen a great blue take flight from a tree or the ground, it is impressive!

Not 100% sure lan-lord, I got the ID from a Peterson Field Guide, the tri colored pic in the guide has different leg coloring, The one I used was actually a Great Blue Heron.

Somewhere I have a couple of pics of them taking off, when I locate I will share.
