Hey Folks,
This is my first visit in your forum.
I recieved an e-mail of Jesse who saw my article in a hunting forum, and invited me to show my pic´s and story to his forum too
<
.
So i hope u ´ll enjoy my litlle story from Europe, Germany.

Okay:
Here we go =>

A litle bit snow has fallen and so i decided to go out earlier to my hunting area, although the moon wasn´t up at all.
I placed myself on a real nice place near some oaks and a small pine forest, which should be a good place for boars. Everything they love, was arround.
Some old Oaks, groups of smaal pine trees here and there....
Good for boars, but hard for the hunter, because of all these small bushes and trees standing arround there. You have to be very carefull with shooting, because if you hit a bush or one of the small branches,..the bullet easily could be diverted .

After the night break in, and the moon still wasn´t up i saw the first group of boares leaving a thicket on the right hand side,..mooving to a big oak to look for some food. But all of them were standing on one place or behind a tree. So it took me some time to get "one free" out of the group.
But i needed "too" long to get a sure shot on one of them..so the group of boars dissapeared Sh*** .

I think we all know these moments where you think you will have your game in a few seconds in your game bag...and than something ... totaly unexpected will happen. In this case it was a male boar which chased the group of boars away to anothet thiket on the left hand side of my tree stand .

But they went only 50 m away into a big pine thicket (Dickung).

Although the rut of the boars is nearly finished...at this area they where still in the rut. Although i couldn´t see them, it was obvious that the mature male boars fighted with each other because of the produced "noises" they made, and i have to tell you, that i never heared noises like this before! Realy impressive to be "in this spectacel".
The sounds they made realy were a litle bit scary..it sounds like the werewolfsounds in horror movies .. interrupted by the noise of the rest of the small piglets that get bit away by the mature males.

30 minutes later the first two piglets came back to the oaks,...and as they passed a place where no more small trees were standing,..i took my chance and shoot.
Couldn´t hear the impact of the bullet, and so i first thought i have missed it......

Okay..i think that was it with hunting for this evening, because the noise of the shot will scare the other boars in the wood and they will moove away from this place.

After i waited half an hour and want to leave my stand to check the place for a blood trail ...i manage to see a black shadow moving after a group of small pines.
Oh..what´s that???? Could it be ..THAT
.. jupp it could...

After i took a look through my binoculars and was sure that it isn´t a female boar i switched my binos with my gun,...and had to hurry up because the boar want to get back to the thicket. So to say in the last second i fired and the boar dissapeared in the thicket. Oh my god...what´s going on here....have i missed it?
Although i fired as the boar was moving i was sure that i placed a good shot.Otherwise i wouldn´t have pulled the Trigger!
But you never know...

After 15 minutes waiting and listinig into the thicket, I left my stand and go to the place where i shot on the first boar.. and there it was.
A piglet of 25 Kg.

Okay, so my first thoughts that i perhaps could have missed it, were blown away. So i took my piglet and returned to my stand.
And after 5 minutes have passed i heared the boars again,..fighting with each other in the thicket which was 30 meters away from me.

A friend of mine, which i placed 800meters away at another place...already hadn´t seen one boar,..as he told me via sms with his portable.
The wind was realy strong and although theh temp. "only" was -3 degrees celsius, the windchill effect made it feel like -20Degrees Celsius.
So i realy get cold, and my feets were like ice cubes.

Okay....i think i had real good luck and Diana (the princess of hunting) had pleasant me enough (as never before)....i "told" my friend that we will wait for another 30 minutes, and then i will come by to pick him up.

oopps, what that...over there..
two black shadows mooved arround some branches..Boars?
Oh my god....grap my gun, unsafed it,....aimed on the smaller one of the two piglets, and as the recticle was on the shoulder...i pulled the trigger .

You can´t believe what was going ob in the inside of me. I was there and my whole body was shaking because of the "hunting fever"...and the thinks that happened the last 2 Hours .

Now..it´s time for a cigarette!
After i have finished it i went to the place where i shoot on the last boar and grabed the pig that was laying 30 meters away from my stand,..and i went to the place where i fired the shot on the 2 nd boar.

No blood ???? Nothing. Curious.....
Could it be that i hit a branch?
So i followed the feet prints of the boar and found a small piece of blood. Okay...that looks good.
Got back to my car and picked my friend up.. He couldn´t believe what i was telling him. He thought i was kidding with him.
But as he saw the 2 piglets laying under my stand....he believed what i told him.:)

So..now it´s time to look for boar no.2.
Took my gun and my dog and we went to the place where i found the first blood. And at the point of the thicket where the boar went in...i found more blood.

And this bloodtrail was magnificant. The 260gr Nosler PT out of the .375H&H Mag. did a real good job. The bloodtrail was easy to follow,it looks like somebody took a water can.....
After 60 meters we were standing at my boar.
A lovely 1 year old (Überläüfer) pig of approx. 75KG.

So i think u know what on this evening, later at home, happened.
My hunting boddy and me had some beers...and at 4 o clock in the morning i went to bed.
Sending a pray up in the sky to say Thank you to DIANA for this wonderfull night and all the luck with which she present me.

My Hunting Dog and the three boars i took this night

After i gutted them,..i realy was "finished" :)

Very nice Konst! Some nice boars you got there. Kinda look like huge javelinas. Different from California boars out here.

JHP hog hunt in Germany at Konst's place anyone?

Konstantin,

Weidmansheil! My uncle hunts the wildschwein in Bavaria (Karlstein am Main). That's where I first learned to love boar hunting! Thank you so much for your post.

Konst,

Welcome to JHP! Glad to have you aboard (and abroad).
<

Looks like a fun hunt, and great conditions to hunt in. Not a lot of opportunity to get cold in California, at least not in the part of the state where I hunt.

That .375 must really knock them over, huh?

At any rate, I look forward to hearing more about your hunts.

Is there company in Germany that handles these hunts? Being an America hunter, I would not know German laws on firearms and hunting.

In a couple of years I plan to visit Europe, and I would really be leaning towards Germany if I could get Octoberfest and Germany Boar a trip.

Ummmm....boar and beer.

Weidmansheil! Konstantin.

Thanks for dropping by Konstantin and sharing your hunt and pics. It sure brought back memories for me when I lived in Germany.

I knew the members here would also enjoy seeing how the hog hunting was in Germany.

Please let us know how you do on your future hunts.

@ MR Mullen:
Hard to say...;)
If u like to hunt in Germany you have to get a "hunting licence for foreigners".

But in despite to the US Regulation of getting a hunting licence: Just go to Fish and Game and ask or apply for a hunting licence, we Germans have to make a real big test / examination.

The different hunting clubs are doing a course for this examination, that takes a min of 6 months. You were teached in different subjects like; small game hunting, big game hunting, firearms, pistols and revolvers, hunting dogs, trees and environment of bushes and so on, shooting, the different hunting laws, safety, different small/ big game species ( you have to know how many teeth a roe / red / Fallow has and when they change it..) , hunting regulations...and this list could be extended :)
believe me, although my grandpa and my father already have hunted long time before i was born, and i joined them since i left the craddle, it was a heck of learning for me to pass this test. Sometimes a pain in the bull... :D
It´s realy demanding.

So to come back to your question; our hunting office like to see a document that shows that u are familiar with our laws and habbits and the test´s you have to pass to get your licence in your homeland have to be similar to our .

I think that´s the problem when you apply here for a german hunting licence with a US licence, To say it in short words,..think they won´t accept your licence.

Only chance,..that u know a german hunter that maybe is willing to take u out with him ...the rest u might know.

But if he does this, it´s risky for him.
One Reason, if something happens...no insurance
and on the other hand...he risks his hunting licence.
And if he has a hunting area lend by his own (what u have to do, otherwise u can´t hunt if u don´t know somebody ho has a area which he likes to share with u).....and has no hunting licence, because they took it away from him,...he isn´t allowed to lend this area (or another9 further more.
So u see where the problem is .
Sorry to come up with bad news for u , but i think it all raise and falls if u can get a german hunting licence for foreigners. To do it the legal way.

cheers

something like a tale:

Diana is the greek/romanic "princess of hunting".
She is "taking care" of the game . So if she likes u (and u show respect to the game u hunt on) she might is be willing to give u some good hunting chances.
If u are a bad guy...she will protect her game from you :)

So it´s usually said, when u come home and had luck (or as me real hugh luck) Diana has blessed me this time.

by the way: the heilige Hubertus is the person who protects the hunter.
It´s been told that Hubertus ( agerman Hunter , lived in Germany, in the 17th or 18th century) went out for hunting, and one day he saw a hugh red stag, with a "glowing" cross (the christus cross) in the middle of his antlers.
So Hubertus couldn´t /didn´t shoot the stag, because he believes in Christus....
And since this happened he is the " Schutzpatron" of us,...the german/european hunters....

We do have a lot of rumors and tales.
" And we do take a look went we are hunting" Believe it or not.
e.g. i never never never never never never never never never never never will shoot on a white deer or stag or game. It will bring bad luck to u...the history shows this.
e.g. Cheusceso (the former dictator of rumania) shot several white chamois,..and he get´s killed by stones thatt he people of his land threw on him. As long as he was dead.

Another example: The austrian Kronprinz Ferdinand (not quiete sure about the name) get killed in 1918 by a separatist in Sarajevo.....And this "attentat" was the reason on which the 1st WorldWar break out .( and the kronoprinz shot two years ago a white red stag)

I guess u now think we are totaly insane :D
But me for my part,.....i believe on these rumors

Hope i could express myself that way, that u understand who or what Diana is.
If not,..get back to me and i try it again.

@ Mr Mullen,
because your question of hunting in germany.....a friend of mine told me that the US ARMY Headquarter (i think they are located in or near Greifenstein) maybe handles the "thing" with the hunting licence for US citizen.
I´m not quiete sure if this info is right,...but maybeit´s a chance to contact them and ask how it works.
sorry that i can´t give u an contact adress or mail

cheers

Thanks again Konstantin, You've clearly shown the realities of hunting in Germany.

On the one hand, it is VERY strictly regulated, on the other hand you once again prove something I've noticed my whole life with the Germans that do hunt. I have NEVER met a "slob" hunter in Germany. Those who are willing to go through the government's rigorous obstacles are incredibly passionate about the sport and respectful of the animals. Ignorant idiots would never go through that trouble. Thus, hunters are a very tightly bonded group, nothing is done without a certain amount of ritual and historical context. They even learn to play the hunting horns and get together to practice them with as much importance as knowing their weapons. At least this has been my experience from my visits there.

Now, for the record, I would never wish such regulations in the US. It's just an interesting difference. By the way my uncle in Bavaria just killed another boar last week. Hopefully I can post pictures of his soon.

Vielen dank once again for your posts.
