Flatbroke, Lurediver, Arrowslinger and myself had plans to hunt Saturday morning. I had to change plans last minute, and switch the hunt to Friday afternoon. With Lurediver and Arrowslinger in town, I got off work, and in less than an hour we were all loaded up and headed out.

We arrived at the ranch in time to hunt for a few hours. The ranch manager and his friend were going to join us as well. We put the tracking collars on the dogs, got geared up, and were off.

We hunted a couple of areas, and were unable to find any hogs. As we crested a large ridge and headed down the other side, Lurediver spotted about 30 Elk on a finger. It was cool to sit there and check out all the
Elk. Made me feel like we were out of state somewhere.

We decided to go hunt another area. So we loaded up the dogs. We had 2 dogs in the dog box, the 2 top dogs chained in the corners, and a younger dog we are training loose in the bed.

We were driving along about 10 mph. All at once the young dog bails over the side of the truck, the other dogs are going crazy, and Lurediver says he smells hogs. We stopped and let 2 more dogs out. We were on a ridge with several draws and fingers. We were not sure wich way the dogs went. Flatbroke, Arrowslinger and Lurediver went one way, and my friend and I another. Flatbroke called on the radio. Said he could hear the dogs down in a canyon. I ran back to the truck, and drove over to where Flatbroke was. We sent two more dogs. I could see the dogs and other guys headed down the canyon.

I made my way down there. Lurediver and Arrowslinger did a good job of running down there and getting right into the middle of things. They were there with my friend and had the pig finished as I arrived. We hooked up the dogs, and prepared to make the steep climb back to the truck.

It was all over and we were about out of time. It was one of those hunts when you start to feel like it's not going to happen, then suprise. I really enjoyed the hunt. We got to see some game you do not see every day. And a young dog that is starting to figure it out.

Flatbroke, Lurediver and Arrowslinger are good people to hang out with as well as hunt. Hope you all enjoyed it, we will have to do it again sometime.

When we showed up at Bigworms house and he looked at my boots and said "you gonna be able to run in those", i knew we were in for a fun hunt!

Although these two don't know a lion track from a bear or squirrel, they definately know hogs and have an impressive pack of dogs. Great to watch the dogs work and without a doubt, they (the dogs) enjoy their jobs.

A big thanks to the Worm & Flatbroke for the invite and hunt, good times for sure!!

Yep good times, good times. I know AS and myself can't wait to go again.
Flatbroke and Bigworm are 1st class guys who know a thing or two about hunting and love to share it with others.
Their pack of dogs enjoy the hunt just as much as any of us and the ranch we visted was top notch.

Didn't anyone take photos?:chainsaw:

If you can't tell from the 1st picture we had just run about a half mile, straight down and up the other side of a steep hill. I was out of breathe but didn't want to miss the fun. Chasing hogs with dogs isn't for the average weekend warrior. You need to be in shape and be able to make decisions in a split second. There's a reason Bigworm is so skinny, Flatbroke on the other hand couldn't join the fun down below because he was back at the truck trying to locating his 1984 Shimano biking hat.:bag-on-head:

Bigworm can you salvage a photo of his hat?

Not sure how the rabbit hunts go... but the dogs find and stop the hog until the hunter arrives. Some times the fight will be intense, and others the hog will run, and fight, run and fight.

Lurediver, I will see what I can find on the hat.

Not at all like a rabbit hunt, Kram. You're not shooting on the run.

The hog dogs work to bring the hog to bay, then you go in and make the kill. It's a different kind of hunting experience, but it seems like most people who do it find it pretty exciting.

You what was really funny? Lurediver and Arrowslinger arrived at my house. I was not home and my wife had no idea what was going on.
They rang the door bell. My wife answered, and the guys are hello ! She is sitting there wondering who in the heck are these guys.
I think she thought Lurediver was selling Kirby vacuum cleaners, and Arrowslinger was going to do the free demonstration, and shampoo one room.
