I think they had some DFG sponsored hunts on that ranch earlier in the year. Did you do a search on here???

Fish and Game Offers May Pig Hunts Through SHARE Program

The Department of Fish and Game (DFG) will conduct a permit-only wild pig hunt on Bobcat Ranch in May. This hunting opportunity – under the Shared Habitat Alliance for Recreational Enhancement (SHARE) Program – will give 56 wild pig hunters access to the private property during two archery periods, two apprentice periods and four general method periods.

The SHARE Program is a voluntary landowner incentive program. Participating landowners receive liability protection and may receive compensation for providing public access to or through their land for wildlife-dependent recreational activities. The goal of the SHARE Program is to provide hunting, fishing and other recreational access on private lands in California that would not be available otherwise.

The Bobcat Ranch is located in Yolo County’s Vaca Mountain foothills, west of Winters. Hunting under the SHARE Program will help achieve the ranch’s long-term conservation management objectives, which include controlling the wild pig population.

Applications must be received by 4 p.m. on April 5, 2011. More information and applications are available on DFG’s SHARE Program website at: www.dfg.ca.gov/wildlife/hunting/share.

I was thinking there were 5 pigs killed but probably should have been more. Sounds like lots of people saw them or heard them but could not get on them.

This is good, gonna apply to this one... I wish DFG could add more hunts up here in the bay area like this one that are close to home.

They are constantly looking for them and you just need to check the DFG website to see if any are added. I was lucky enough to draw one on the Channel Islands some years back...that one was a bit different to say the least.

It was a good hunt. I was drawn for the second archery date during the last hunt period. We did not see any pigs, we did walk our asses off. The weather may have contributed to our unsuccessful trip, as it was raining the whole time. The ranch is a really nice place, but some areas are really steep. I would probably hunt it the same way I did last time and just keep hiking around looking for pigs. They are most def in there. There is pig sign just about all over the ranch especially in the lower areas around water. I hope I get drawn again for it someday.

Ah ha.........the Bobcat Ranch again. I could have killed 20 pigs myself but oh well I was only a non-hunting guest and was shooting them with my finger pistol. Dad shot and missed, the group of about 40 of them ran right by me at 15 yards and all I could do was what each one of them gave me the middle finger. Dad shot again and missed, the second group of all reddish pigs with a huge black boar at the tail end of the train headed into the brush. The whole day we can hear them, we can see their legs through the tunnels, we could see the chapparals shake, but nothing gave a clean shot until almost dark when dad shot again and connected on a 150 lbs sow. That whole day we sat waiting for the pigs to come out, we saw 3 guys walked to within 1000 yards of us and turned around to head back the way they came from. One guy actually walked away up to us because he heard the shots dad fired earlier. We posted him on a really good spot where he can hear the pigs only 40-50 yards away, but nope they wouldn't come out. Oh well, the three of us were who know how miles from the truck. So each we cut up dad's sow, stuff meats in our packs, and start the hike out with flashlight. Poor Marc had no flashlight but with Dad's and my flashlight we made it out with just a few foot blisters and blue toe nails at 9pm. Marc in SF, if you are reading this, the email address you gave me didn't work. PM or email me through JHO and we need to get back on the Bobcat Ranch again.

Brian and Mark of DFG, all I ask is put a lucky charm on my application this time.....

Anyone who get lucky on the draw and need some advice, just give me a holler. I can always use a beer in return.....Good luck to yall.

So since I am new at this, what happens next? Applications were due yesterday by 5:00pm.
Does the state draw immediately? Do they notify by mail, online where you log in, email?

Just curious.
